Fiber Optic Technician / Fiber Optic Groundman (Substation Projects)

Location: South & Central Florida (Travel Required)
Schedule: 4x10s (Mon–Thurs) + Overtime Opportunities
Pay: $23–$27/hour + Per Diem, Mileage, Hotel + Full Benefits

About Us

We are a full-service EPC contractor specializing in substation and infrastructure construction across Florida. As part of our work, we install and maintain fiber optic systems within and around substations—supporting critical communication and control systems for the electrical grid.

Our crews travel from project to project throughout South and Central Florida, working outdoors and building essential infrastructure that keeps power systems running.

Position Overview

We are looking for a Fiber Optic Technician (Fiber Optic Groundman) with hands-on experience running, landing, and terminating single-mode fiber (SMF).

This is a field-based role working primarily in and around substations. You’ll be part of a small crew responsible for installing fiber systems from the ground up—routing cable, prepping, terminating, and supporting testing activities.

This is a great opportunity for someone with fiber experience who enjoys working outdoors and wants steady, project-based work with consistent hours and overtime potential.

Ideal Candidate Location

Candidates based along or near SR-70 or SR-80 corridors (e.g., Okeechobee, Labelle, Clewiston, Arcadia, etc.) are especially well-positioned for our typical project locations.

Typical Work Areas

Projects are generally located in:
Palm Beach • Clewiston • Labelle • Okeechobee • Sebring • Arcadia • Fort Pierce • Lake Worth • Stuart • Boynton Beach

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, route, and secure fiber optic cable in substation environments
  • Prepare, land, and terminate single-mode fiber (SMF)
  • Perform fiber splicing and basic testing (preferred)
  • Assist with trenching, conduit, and cable placement as needed
  • Label, dress, and organize fiber neatly within panels and enclosures
  • Work from prints, fiber diagrams, and basic construction drawings
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site
  • Work closely with crew members to complete daily tasks efficiently

Qualifications
  • Experience running and terminating fiber optic cable (SMF preferred)
  • Basic understanding of fiber installation standards and practices
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Willingness to travel throughout South and Central Florida
  • Reliable personal vehicle (mileage is reimbursed)
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work as part of a crew

Preferred:

  • Fiber splicing and testing experience
  • Experience working in substations, industrial, or utility environments
  • OSHA 10 or other safety certifications

Compensation & Perks
  • $23–$27/hour (based on experience)
  • Overtime opportunities (paid at applicable rates)
  • Per diem provided
  • Hotel accommodations covered
  • Mileage reimbursement for use of personal vehicle
  • Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, etc.)

Why Join Us?
  • Steady, project-based work across Florida
  • 4-day workweek (3-day weekends most weeks)
  • Opportunity to build specialized experience in substation fiber systems
  • Work on critical infrastructure projects with a growing company

If you have fiber experience and are looking for consistent work, travel opportunities, and a strong team environment—we’d like to hear from you.
