Job description

The Temporary Part-Time Principal DevOps Engineer will be responsible for providing leadership in the development and deployment of cutting-edge products used in the power industry. This individual will lead the DevOps team and shape the next generation of Doble Field Force product offerings. The ideal candidate is not only technical, but also energetic and passionate about delivering turn-key solutions, and then managing them from an operational perspective. The technical leader will design and maintain platforms for continuous integration and continuous deployment for existing and next-gen products at Doble. This role will be based in our Marlborough, MA office reporting to the DevOps Engineering Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Lead the design, development, configuration, and delivery of Doble Field Force products

  • Lead technical and customer requirements gathering, estimating, and planning efforts

  • Architect and support the operational framework of the Field Force products

  • Interface with various Software and Firmware teams at Doble to architect, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines in different platforms for Doble products.

  • Architect, Design and implement the deployment environments in cloud for next-gen Doble products

  • Reproduction of customer environments on lab setup; work with L3 support to isolate and solve problems; recommend potential new solutions

  • Develop a skill set to be a key person to technically triage customer issues, as needed interface to the customer

  • Act as a subject matter expert in Microsoft Windows, CI/CD, Azure

  • Responsible for working with development and project managers to assist in technical decision making

  • Mentor junior engineers and on-going professional development activities

  • Work directly with vendors to support 3rd party integrations

  • Travel requirement: less than 5%

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical leadership role in DevOps, Software Engineering or IT Engineering with an appreciation of production environments, preferably in both Windows and Linux environments
  • 8+ years of experience in Software development and support

  • Familiarity and experience working with Linux, PowerShell and scripting languages

  • Ability to assess new technologies and test implementations

  • Strong interpersonal, project management and organizational skills with ability to track multiple project executions simultaneously

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Strong passion for assuring product quality

  • Familiarity with systems management

  • Aptitude for automation of tasks and their validation

  • Ability to express ideas clearly in written and oral communications

  • Project management skills, including planning, estimation and requirements management

  • Experience with interfacing directly with customers

  • Experience working in an agile engineering environment

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (Not Required):
  • Experience working with Atlassian Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket products and Azure DevOps

  • Experience developing Windows applications or extensive experience configuring windows

  • Familiarity with cloning of systems

  • Experience or the desire to learn about utility power systems

  • Experience working in cloud platforms and designing deployment environments for products based microservice architecture

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Expert knowledge of scripting and programming languages including C# , PowerShell, Python

  • Willingness and motivation to assume increased responsibility

  • Ability to quickly prototype new concepts and ideas

  • Ability to provide creativity while solving complex problems without known solutions

  • Must be able to assemble facts from various areas, analyze data, and provide informed recommendations to management

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand, sit, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones, and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients, co-workers, and customers. Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job related skills, as well as relevant education or training experience.
