The Job ** THIS IS A CONFIRE POSITION ONLY ** CONFIRE is a separate entity from San Bernardino County and the Fire Protection District. MOU Salary Increases 2.5%-7/25/2026 3.0% - 2/20/2027 CONFIRE,JPA recruiting for Emergency Services Dispatcher to receive requests for emergency and non-emergency assistance. This position is responsible for dispatching County fire, emergency medical and local government services

Responsibilities include monitoring the radios, communication equipment, and personnel, and coordinating mutual aid procedures and operations. Distinguishing Characteristics The Dispatcher class is distinguished by its critical role in receiving, evaluating, and processing emergency and non-emergency requests for fire, medical, and rescue services across multiple jurisdictions. Incumbents operate in a high-volume, multi-agency communications environment, utilizing advanced Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, radio networks, and established medical and fire protocols to determine call priority and ensure the rapid and accurate deployment of resources.

Examples of Duties: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Receives emergency and non-emergency calls for service and inquiries from the public and enters information in the CAD system. Dispatches appropriate fire, EMS, and support resources using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, radio communications, and mapping tools. Maintains continuous communication with field personnel, providing updates, additional information, and resource coordination as situations evolve.

Monitors multiple radio channels simultaneously, ensuring timely acknowledgment of status changes, unit availability, and incident progression. Provides vacation and temporary relief as required. Provides other duties as required.

CONFIRE, JPA is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) located in San Bernardino County California established to provide communications, dispatch, computer information systems support (IS), and geographic information systems (GIS) to CONFIRE member and contract agencies. The CONFIRE Communications Center's (Comm Center) primary function is to provide 24-hour/365-day directfire, EMS, and rescue dispatch services to CONFIRE agencies. Beyond the direct fire dispatch role, Comm Center also functions as the San Bernardino County (XBO) Operational Area dispatch, which provides large incident coordination for fire, local government, and emergency medical resources on a countywide basis.

Conditions of Employment Examination: There will be an evaluation of qualifications based on a review of a skills battery assessment. Background: Candidates must under go and successfully complete a background investigation, including a fingerprint check, and medical examination. Shifts: Candidates must be available for all shifts.

Incumbents will be required to work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays ,and evenings, as well as mandatory overtime. Refusal of an assigned shift may result in removal from the eligibility list or termination. Shift differentials may apply.

Availability: CONFIRE operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Incumbents must be available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and grave yard shifts, as required to meet operational needs. Minimum Requirements Typing: Typing speed of 30 WPM Experience: One (1) year experience with a Fire or EMS agency, such as that acquired as a seasonal firefighter or in a Fire Academy, or similar experience that required knowledge of fire equipment and response procedures.

-OR- One (1) year experience as a dispatcher operating a computer-aided dispatch (CAD)system in a public safety environment. Desired Qualifications The ideal candidate will have current or previous experience as a Dispatcher or System Status Controller dispatching emergency response services with in San Bernardino County and Riverside County areas.
