POSITION PURPOSE:
Attends different landing sites, refuels buses, and checks all fluid levels in a safe and timely manner. Performs some mechanical work and other assignments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;
  • Working knowledge of computers;
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
  • Ability to drive automatic or standard vehicles;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED certification.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Must hold and maintain a valid North Carolina commercial driver's license.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Fuels buses and checks all fluid levels.
  2. Refuels and restocks assigned truck.
  3. Repairs mechanical problems with assigned truck.
  4. Performs general service, including changing oils, changing tires, fueling buses, changing batteries, and greasing vehicles.
  5. Assists in performing supervised routine Preventative Maintenance.
  6. Performs any other duties, as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates in a working environment and has a noise level of medium to high and inclement weather. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered very heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 100 pounds of force. Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes/airborne particles. Occasional exposed to risk of shock. The work frequently requires the ability to operate automotive equipment.
