Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a Germanna regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. The
Nursing Clinical Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing clinical, laboratory, and simulation experiences for nursing students, including the development and implementation of clinical schedules and placement assignments. This position serves as a liaison among students, faculty, and clinical partners to ensure effective communication, compliance with regulatory and clinical requirements, and the successful delivery of high-quality clinical education experiences that support student achievement and program outcomes.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, coordinate, and communicate clinical, laboratory, and simulation schedules and placement assignments for students and faculty, including managing schedule changes resulting from unforeseen circumstances and ensuring schedules are distributed prior to the start of clinical experiences.
- Communicate timely and accurate information to students, faculty, and clinical partners regarding assignments, schedules, requirements, and other clinical-related matters.
- Advise faculty regarding student clinical performance, assist with maintaining clinical attendance records, and collaborate with faculty on student make-up arrangements.
- Serve as a resource for students and faculty and address clinical faculty concerns related to student issues during clinical experiences, including select evenings and weekends as needed.
- Assist with monitoring faculty and student clinical credentials and compliance requirements.
- Maintain current clinical affiliation agreements and cultivate clinical partnerships that support nursing program goals and student learning experiences.
- Assist with the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, orientation, training, and clinical/simulation observation of clinical faculty.
- Monitor faculty clinical workload calculations and related assignments.
- Support curriculum implementation, evaluation, and accreditation standards as they relate to clinical, laboratory, and simulation activities under the direction of the Associate Dean of Nursing.
- Participate in Commencement, Convocation, college-wide, division, and department meetings; committees; task forces; projects; search committees; recruitment and community events; professional development activities; and other assigned duties.
- Participate in scholarly and creative engagement activities, as well as service to the College and the community.
- Comply with all applicable College, Virginia Community College System (VCCS), local, state, and federal policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
- Maintain required professional credentials and comply with requirements established by accrediting agencies, regulatory bodies, and clinical partners.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Demonstrated clinical nursing experience.
- Demonstrated teaching experience in clinical and/or academic nursing settings.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, teamwork, initiative, and commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Germanna Community College and its nursing programs.
- Ability to meet all clinical agency onboarding and compliance requirements, including but not limited to:
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification
- Background checks
- Drug screening
- Fit testing
- Point-of-care testing validation
- Required immunizations and health screenings
- Additional agency-specific requirements
Additional Considerations
- Experience coordinating clinical education experiences within a nursing program.
- Experience supporting student retention and success initiatives.
- Training and experience in nursing simulation education.
- Experience with accreditation standards and processes, including those of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and other relevant accrediting organizations.
- Experience developing and maintaining partnerships with healthcare organizations and community agencies.
