6A Telemetry & Progressive Care Unit is a dynamic, blended unit with 36 total beds:

  • 24 Telemetry beds staffed at a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • 12 Progressive Care beds staffed at a 1:4 ratio

You'll care for a diverse patient population, including:

  • Chest pain, arrhythmias, post-cardiac caths
  • Post-pacemaker or ICD implants
  • Respiratory distress, renal failure, pulmonary embolism
  • Vascular interventions requiring high-risk anticoagulation
  • Stable post-STEMI patients
  • High-level oxygen support, IV drips, DKA
  • Post-op and medical patients requiring enhanced monitoring

How you'll contribute

A RN Resources Nurse who excels in this role:

  • Performs various duties to provide clinical quality nursing education, admissions, and throughput to assigned unit and to maintain or attain the highest practical level of functioning as illustrated by the following:

  • Is the primary admission nurse for assigned unit (units) while on duty; high emphasis on medication reconciliation.

  • Assigns/updates "bed ahead" in Teletracking system with the goal of expediting the admission process to the unit while on duty.

  • Provides information regarding plan of care as necessary and completes white board upon patient admission.

  • Works shift hours designated as highest admit times according to trended data.

  • Makes rounds to see each patient daily and as needed provide feedback to unit manager regarding any findings that need leadership follow up collaboration.

  • Collaborate with house supervisor throughout the shift regarding pending discharges and barriers to completion.

  • Is responsible and instrumental for the clinical quality initiatives on assigned unit and collaborates with quality leader as needed.

  • Ensures that nurses are aware of the services available to them; encourages nurses to participate in community activity programs and shared governance.

  • Assesses clinical education needs of assigned staff and analyzes where an opportunity to develop individual nurses is necessary.

  • Completes employee and patient incident report forms when necessary; completes follow-up investigation forms as needed.

  • Provides clinical education validation documentation to employee files.

  • Other duties assigned in relation to nursing clinical excellence of assigned unit.

What we're looking for 

The right person will be responsible for performing a variety of duties to provide quality nursing care to patients. This important role is responsible for "bed ahead" designation in teletracking system on assigned unit while on duty; provides clinical education to assigned staff and to coordinate admissions on assigned unit or units; for implementing specific procedures and evidence-based protocols or processes on assigned units.

Applicants should have a current RN VA or compact state license and possess an associate's degree in nursing. 

Additional requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 6 months
  • Experience in clinical area preferred

Hourly Range - $36.55 - $47.21 per hour
