Job Description:

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Administrator to manage and support a secure, air-gapped virtualized environment running VMware ESXi and ArcGIS Enterprise 12.1. This role combines infrastructure management, enterprise GIS administration, and general IT operations to ensure the reliability, performance, and security of a multi-server ArcGIS deployment.

Key Responsibilities:

VMware / Virtual Infrastructure Administration:

- Manage and maintain VMware vSphere environment, including ESXi hosts and vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA)

- Provision, configure, and optimize virtual machines across multiple physical hosts

- Monitor system performance, resource utilization (CPU, RAM, GPU), and storage

- Perform VM lifecycle management (deployment, snapshots, backups, cloning)

- Troubleshoot virtualization, networking, and hardware-related issues

- Ensure high availability and system resiliency within an offline environment

ArcGIS Enterprise Administration:

- Administer ArcGIS Enterprise 12.1 deployment (Portal, Server, Image Server, Web Adaptors, Notebook Server)

- Manage site configurations, federation, and security

- Publish and maintain GIS services, web maps, and applications

- Monitor system health, logs, and performance

- Perform upgrades, patches, and backups

- Troubleshoot service failures and performance issues

- Support ArcGIS Pro users and licensing

Database & Data Management:

- Administer Microsoft SQL Server 2019

- Manage geodatabases, backups, and data integrity

- Optimize database performance for GIS workloads

IT Systems & Network Administration:

- Maintain Windows Server 2025 systems

- Configure IIS, DNS, and internal networking

- Implement security policies in an air-gapped environment

- Perform system patching and updates (offline)

- Manage user accounts and access controls

- Maintain system documentation

Hardware & GPU Resource Management:

- Support NVIDIA L40 GPU environments

- Allocate GPU resources for ArcGIS Pro VMs

- Monitor GIS workload performance

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in IT, GIS, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)

- Security+ or greater certification

- 5+ years of systems administration experience

- Strong VMware vSphere / ESXi experience

- Has or is able to obtain a TS/SCI

- ArcGIS Enterprise administration experience

- Windows Server administration knowledge

- SQL Server experience

- IIS/web server knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in air-gapped environments

- Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro workflows

- GPU virtualization experience

- Scripting (PowerShell, Python)

- Backup and disaster recovery knowledge

The likely salary range for this position is $148,750 - $201,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
