Job description

Description The Prince George's County Parks and Recreation, Youth and Countywide Sports Division (YCSD) develops, organizes, and supports recreational sports programming for youth and adults across the county. Our programs aim to foster skill development, teamwork, community engagement, and a lifelong love for sports. The sports unit of YCSD is seeking a Softball Support Staff to assist with the delivery of youth softball programming, leagues, clinics, tournaments and special events lead, at various athletic fields throughout the county.

Individuals in this role will support player development, ensure participant safety, assist with game and league operations, help create a positive and engaging environment for players, families, coaches and spectators. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with youth, have a background in softball, and are committed to promoting a fun, inclusive, and well-organized recreational sports experience. Examples of Important Duties Player Development & Program Support Assist with softball instruction focused on fundamental skills, include throwing catching, fielding, hitting, baserunning and game strategy. Support coaches and participants during practices, clinics, games and special events Provide encouragement and constructive feedback to players of varying ages and skill levels Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, confidence, and respect among participants. Help maintain a safe and positive learning environment.Operations & Administration Assist with on-site operations during practices, games, tournaments and special events

Help ensure games and activites run smoothly and according to established schedule and rules. Support volunteer coaches and umpires by answering questions and providing guidance as needed. Maintain a positive and professional presence with players, coaches, officials, parents and spectators.

Record attendance, program progress and any issues that occur during practices or games. Assist with event setup and breakdown.Customer Service Provide courteous and professional assistance to participants, parents, coaches and spectators Communicate updates about schedule changes, program expectations and field conditions Minimum Qualifications Required Must be at least 16 years of age. Must be comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes in varying weather conditions

Ability to stand, sit, or move for extended periods. Physically able to demonstrate softball skills, move around the field and lift equipment up to 25 lbs. Previous experience playing, coaching, officiating or assisting with softball programsPreferred CPR and First Aid certifications are desirable.

Experience working with youth, recreation programs, or sport leagues Knowledge of softball rules and fundamentals Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with youth, parents, volunteers, and staff. Strong organizational and customer service skills.

Ability to promote a positive, inclusive and safe athletic experience Supplemental Information May be subject to medical, drug, and alcohol testing. Work hours The position will work a variety of shifts Seasonal, part time schedule Evening and weekend hours required during league seasons and special events. Working Conditions/Environment Indoors and outdoors, sometimes during varying weather conditions.

Supplemental information Employment is contingent upon a favorable background check. Work locations are in various locations countywide. This position is seasonal/part-time and does not include a benefits package.
