Job description

Position Title: Telecommunications Technician

Location: Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO

Relocation Assistance: None available at this time

Remote/Telework: NO - Not available for this position

Clearance Type: TS/SCI Eligibility Clearance

Shift: Shift work is required to support 247 operations. It is important to be available to work any shift/designated hours required including nights, weekends, and holidays on a modified Panama schedule.

Travel Required: Up to 10% of the time

Our NORAD Operations Group

Selected by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center's Strategic Warning and Surveillance Systems Division for Operations, Maintenance, and Sustainment (OM&S) of critical mission systems for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Cheyenne Mountain Complex (NCMC), we support the Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) and Space Support Contract II (NISSC II).

Since 2020, through the (ITW/AA) and Space Support Contract II (NISSC II), has provided:

  • Operations, maintenance, and Sustainment of current and legacy systems for the surveillance and cataloging of manmade objects in space.
  • Mitigation of orbital conflicts.
  • Threat warnings and control from airborne, land-based, and space-based systems for threat activities.
  • Operations and maintenance of classified communications.
  • Software development and integration.

NISSC II supports the classified communications and processing for Command and Control (C2) capability and legacy space C2 systems located at:

  • Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station (CMSFS), Colorado
  • Peterson Space Force Base (PSFB), Colorado
  • Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska
  • Vandenberg Space Force Base, California
  • Numerous sensor and forward operator sites around the world

Description of Duties:

The Telecommunications Technician supports North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) on the Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) and Space Support Contract II (NISSC II). The candidate will:

  • Provide support to monitor, install, and perform maintenance of associated networks, and end user equipment/peripherals.
  • Respond to user requests for assistance.
  • Perform on-the-spot diagnostic evaluations, implementation of corrections, and training of users in proper equipment/network operations.
  • Provide support and perform upgrades to platforms, train staff, and maintain daily logs.
  • Provide 24/7 maintenance support, complete modification, and installation of network, cryptographic equipment (i.e., KIV-7M/KG-175), and instruments (Secure Communications user items/peripherals).
  • Provide network/end user item initial and recurring training for all users.
  • Update networks/equipment and help ensure inventory is accurate.
  • Ensure ticketing system is kept up to date on network/system trouble tickets.
  • Route calls, transfer information, and handle administrative duties.
  • Complete various tasks such as typing, checking, and recording information.
  • Oversee the order and replacement of new hardware and software, including warranty claims.
  • Perform and provide server, workstation, and system expertise including on-site and off-site travel (internal to the complex).
  • Assist in development/implementation of system documentation and operating procedures.
  • Research the selection and installation of new network/switching equipment, including hardware and software.

This position is expected to pay $75,000-$85,000 annually; depending on experience, education, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.

This position will be filled and work onsite at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO

Basic Requirements:

  • Clearance Requirement: Top Secret with SCI eligibility.
  • 6 months of directly related experience working with telephone maintenance or similar systems
  • 1 year of work history.
  • IAT Level II Certification *One of the following: CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP

Desired Requirements:

  • Digital Switching Systems - 2A Certification.
  • Knowledge of Telecommunications Secure Voice Switched Network switch management/maintenance.
  • Secure Voice Responsible Officer and Telecommunications Control Officer experience.
  • Experience with Cryptographic/Communications Security (COMSEC) and COMSEC Responsible Officer requirements.
  • Operations planning and management in a real-time support environment.
  • Ability to prepare, objectively review, and deliver technical presentations.
  • Experience with technical knowledge capturing, training, and certification of personnel.
  • Have demonstrated experience and capability with interfacing with customers at very high levels.
  • 1 year of related experience with modification, and installation of the secure Telecommunications Secure Voice Switched Network, cryptographic equipment (i.e., KIV-7M/KG-175), and end user peripherals.
  • Commercial Public Base eXchange and telephone switch experience.
  • Experience assisting with conferencing.
