Job description

The National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) program at Leidos is seeking a Telecommunications Engineering Technician to provide support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Central Service Area - Engineering Services Group located in Washington, DC.

The ideal candidate will support the daily operations of the Brand-New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS).

This new system will replace outdated infrastructure including radar, software, hardware and telecommunications networks to manage modern travel.

Telecommunications Engineering Technician Job Duties Include:

  • Review FAA databases and provide input and or draft Site Survey Reports (SSR).
  • Conduct site surveys to provide input and/or draft Site Survey Reports.
  • Coordinate schedules with SSC, ES, and vendor personnel.
  • Draft Project Risk Plans (PRP) and Operational Risk Management Plans (ORMP).
  • Generate and/or update drawings, sketches, and artifacts.
  • Draft project plans for site preparation activities.
  • Coordinate scheduled outages with SSC, Air Traffic and Operations personnel.
  • Develop transition plans.
  • Resolve schedule conflicts.
  • Accompany unbadged personnel at facilities.
  • Work with LECs on schedules.
  • Develop briefings/information/reports on District status.
  • Work with other Districts/SSC on interstate service flows, transitions, cutovers, planning, etc.
  • Support District POC and SSCs with day-to-day work activities.
  • Review and provide comments on vendor Site Specific Implementation Plans (SSIP).

Telecommunications Engineering Technician Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering and 4 to 8 years of relevant experience OR a Master's degree and 2 to 6 years. Additional experience may be substituted/considered/accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to travel 75-100%.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance Suitability (To be eligible for Public Trust Security Clearance, one must be either a U.S. Citizen OR a U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card holder who has resided in the U.S.A for the past 3 years of the past 5 years consecutively with no breaks).
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suites.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience working with Telco systems performing Network Troubleshooting.
  • Proficient working with AutoCAD or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Assoc (NFPA) standards, National Airspace System Equipment Tower.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and general construction and electrical safety standards.
  • Knowledge of NAS facilities such as ASR, ATCT, VOR, ARSR, RCAG.
