Peraton is seeking a Telecommunications Systems Engineer SME to support the design, integration, and analysis of complex telecommunications systems that protect and power the National Airspace System. In this role, you will contribute to mission-critical systems that enable safe and reliable air travel across the United States. You will work alongside engineers, architects, and stakeholders to ensure telecommunications systems meet demanding performance, reliability, and security requirements in a highly regulated federal environment.
Work Location:
  • This position is full-time on site in Herndon, VA. Once operations are fully established, we will consider telework options however, this is not guaranteed.

In this position, you will:
  • Provide technical leadership for complex systems engineering efforts, driving architecture decisions, verification strategies, and risk mitigation.
  • Advise program leadership on technical baselines, integration sequencing, and test campaigns.
  • Mentor engineering teams and ensure engineering practices align with mission and contractual expectations.
  • Support systems engineering activities across the lifecycle, translating requirements into system designs and verification plans.
  • Advise on integration, modeling, and trade studies to ensure systems meet performance, reliability, and security objectives. Coordinate with stakeholders to manage requirements traceability and technical risk.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree and 12 years' experience or Masters degree and 10 years' experience or Associate's degree and 14 years' experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 16 years' experience
  • Systems engineering with experience leading multi-discipline engineering teams and test campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting telecommunications or network-based systems.
  • Experience translating high-level requirements into system designs, integration plans, and verification strategies.
  • Experience with telecommunications architectures, including IP-based networks, transport systems, or mission-critical communications environments.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, or similar platforms).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with National Airspace System (NAS) architecture and modernization initiatives (e.g., NextGen).
  • Certifications: INCOSE CSEP preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
  • Strong ability to interpret complex data and deliver actionable insights.
  • Proven experience designing efficient workflows.
  • Expertise in managing and optimizing processes for compliance and performance.

Target Salary Range
$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
