Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable, technically skilled Telecom Technician to join our growing team. This position is responsible for the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of telecommunications, voice, network, and low-voltage systems at customer locations.

The ideal candidate enjoys working independently, solving technical problems, interacting with customers, and taking ownership of a job from installation through completion. We are looking for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship and delivering an excellent customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot business telecommunications systems.
  • Install and service VoIP phones, phone systems, network equipment, and related communications hardware.
  • Run, terminate, test, and troubleshoot Cat5e, Cat6, and other low-voltage cabling.
  • Install and maintain network racks, patch panels, switches, routers, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose voice, data, connectivity, call-quality, and equipment issues.
  • Program and configure phones, extensions, voicemail, call routing, auto attendants, and other telecommunications features.
  • Perform new system installations, equipment upgrades, moves, adds, and changes.
  • Test completed installations to ensure proper system operation and reliability.
  • Work with customers and internal support teams to resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Clearly explain system operation and basic troubleshooting procedures to customers.
  • Maintain accurate service records, installation documentation, equipment information, and job notes.
  • Properly maintain company tools, test equipment, inventory, and assigned vehicle.
  • Follow company safety procedures and applicable low-voltage installation standards.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional work areas at customer locations.
  • Represent the company professionally while working at customer sites.
  • Participate in manufacturer and company-provided technical training as needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in telecommunications, low-voltage installation, structured cabling, networking, electronics, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of VoIP technology, IP networking, switches, routers, and structured cabling is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to terminate and test Ethernet cabling.
  • Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, DHCP, VLANs, and network connectivity is a plus.
  • Ability to read installation diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Professional communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and telecommunications platforms.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school, industry certifications, or related training are a plus.

Physical Requirements

This position requires working in a variety of commercial environments and may include:

  • Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing throughout the workday.
  • Working from ladders when necessary.
  • Running cable above ceilings and through telecommunications spaces.
  • Using hand tools, power tools, cable testers, and other installation equipment.
  • Occasionally working in tight or confined areas associated with telecommunications and network installations.

What We're Looking For

Beyond technical experience, we want someone who:

  • Takes ownership of problems and sees them through to completion.
  • Shows up on time and can be counted on.
  • Takes pride in doing a job correctly rather than simply getting it finished.
  • Can troubleshoot logically instead of relying solely on instructions.
  • Communicates well with customers and coworkers.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Is comfortable working independently in the field.
  • Wants to continue learning as telecom and network technologies evolve.
