Job Summary:
As the Field Inspector (Construction Quality Control), you will ultimately be responsible for inspecting telecommunications construction work, verifying cable and fiber installation quality, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards and project specifications. You will conduct field inspections, document construction activities, and deliver accurate quality control reporting while supporting construction operations. As the Field Inspector (Construction Quality Control), your customers are construction managers, field personnel, subcontractors, telecommunications clients, and government agencies, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and accurate field reporting.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Travel daily to assigned job sites to perform field inspections
- Inspect cable and fiber placement, splicing activities, and telecommunications construction work performed by employees and subcontractors
- Verify construction quality and compliance with engineering standards, project specifications, and customer requirements
- Document inspection findings and prepare accurate field reports
- Attend field meetings with field personnel, government agencies, and construction contractors
- Operate and maintain field equipment including laptops, tablets, cameras, height sticks, and required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Perform invoicing activities and manage subcontractor work orders when required
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
Required Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver's license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
- OSHA 30 Certification
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
Experience
- Extensive knowledge of outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) telecommunications engineering standards
- Experience with telecommunications construction techniques and blueprint interpretation
- Experience performing field inspections and quality control activities preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of OSP and ISP telecommunications construction standards
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction blueprints
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Earth
- Ability to edit documents and upload files into proprietary software systems
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple inspection assignments
- Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, subcontractors, customers, and government agencies
- Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments as business needs require
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous telecommunications construction quality control or inspection experience
- Experience supporting fiber optic and broadband construction projects
- Experience working with contractors and utility construction operations
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, push, pull, twist, and perform physically demanding activities for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work around heavy equipment and construction machinery
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at elevated heights including poles, ladders, and aerial lift buckets
- Ability to maintain visual and audible awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and job site activities
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and other required safety gear
