Job Description
The Structural Engineer position is part of the Industrial Crane and product engineering team, and your role will be the structural design and support of crane runway systems. This will primarily be engineering of crane runway systems but can also include generating the detailed design drawings when needed. It is also expected that as an engineering resource you will support the team as an expert for structural related topics that come up during the quoting and selling phase, or at site during installation and commissioning.
You will report to the Industrial Crane and Product Engineering Manager.
You Will:
  • Perform engineering calculations to compute the stresses developed in a crane runway structure. Knowledge of different static, dynamic and fatigue failure theories based on stress life approach is required to compute the allowable stresses according to applicable industry standards.
  • Evaluate the static/dynamic strength and fatigue life of structural steel runway structures for the United States and Canada.
  • Use of RISA 3D, vendor software, KC Developed Programs and other in-house built analytical tools to perform and present structural calculations of runway structures conforming to the specifications of AISC/ASCE/CSA/CMAA. The ability to perform calculations is necessary to validate a calculation using a secondary/independent method of analysis.
  • Knowledge on ASCE, IBC codes is a must, including seismic conditions
  • Support customers and team members as an expert when troubleshooting issues that arise onsite during installation, commissioning or the warranty period of a project
  • Occasionally support sales and offer support during the quotation phase of complex projects to provide guidance on design options during the quotation stage
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts

Qualifications
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • Have an EIT certification, with plans or desire to obtain a PE license
  • 3-5 years of related industry experience
  • Knowledge of ASCE, IBE codes and seismic conditions
  • Knowledge of AISC/CSA and CMAA is considered an asset
  • Experience in both Microsoft excel (can perform complex functions) and CAD programs
  • Experience with electric overhead traveling (EOT) cranes is an asset but not required.
