Overview:
TEKsystems are seeking a hands-on Optical Transport Network Engineer to support a critical DoD program focused on expanding and securing mission-critical telecom infrastructure.
This role is ideal for a mid-level network engineer with experience in optical transport systems, circuit activation, and IP networking who thrives in a structured, high-impact environment. What You’ll Be Doing:
- Implement and activate new network circuits and optical transport services
- Configure and test routers, switches, and transport equipment
- Coordinate with customers, vendors, and engineers to deliver end-to-end connectivity
- Execute service orders (TSOs/TSRs) in accordance with DISA processes
- Perform network testing and validation to ensure performance and reliability
- Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues
- Support change management processes for network updates
- Monitor networks post-change to ensure no mission impact Required Qualifications:
- Active Secret Clearance
- Security+ (IAT Level II certification)
- 4+ years of experience in Network engineering or network administration
- Strong understanding of: - Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS) - WAN technologies and TCP/IP - VLANs, VPNs, and network services
- Experience with: - Network configuration and implementation - Circuit activation / service provisioning Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with optical transport / DWDM / telecom networks
- Prior experience in DISA or DoD environments
- Familiarity with TSOs, TSRs, and telecom service orders Desired Certifications:
- CCNA, CCNP, or similar
