Job description

** Please note that this position is in Hawaii on the island of Oahu in the city of Kapolei, Hawaii. No relocation assistance is being offered. **
JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking Experienced Telecom Linemen to perform overhead and underground low-voltage telecommunications construction and maintenance, including fiber optic and copper cable systems. Working under the direction of a Line Foreman, you will install, maintain, and support telecommunications infrastructure throughout Hawaii.
Responsibilities include operating construction equipment, driving commercial vehicles, loading and unloading materials, climbing poles, and working from aerial lift devices. Successful candidates will have field experience, a strong safety record, a solid work ethic, and a commitment to quality workmanship and teamwork.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform overhead and underground low-voltage telecommunications line construction and maintenance under the direction of an assigned Line Foreman.
  • Operate low-voltage line construction equipment, including but not limited to stringing equipment, backhoes, derrick diggers, material handlers, and trucks.
  • Safely and efficiently perform line work on poles and from aerial lift trucks.
  • Climb poles and perform productive field work at elevated heights.
  • Build strand, install and lash cable and fiber, and perform basic pole transfers.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in the use of industry tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Inspect and verify the condition of all vehicles, equipment, and tools used in the performance of assigned work.
  • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and proper stocking of assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment as required.
  • Consistently prioritize personal safety and the safety of crew members and others on the job site.
  • Exercise sound judgment when responding to unusual, hazardous, or emergency situations.
  • Assist with recordkeeping and maintain accurate logs of work performed, including labor hours by category.
  • Represent TDX Corporation and BSEt LLC professionally while maintaining positive relationships with customers, contractors, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
  • High school diploma or GED
    โ€ข Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
    โ€ข Ability to pass a background check, drug and alcohol screening, motor vehicle record review, and DOT physical examination
    โ€ข Reliable attendance and punctuality
    โ€ข Ability to distinguish colors for cable identification and termination
    โ€ข Ability to safely use hand and power tools
    โ€ข Willingness and ability to travel, including overnight, weekend, and extended assignments throughout Hawaii, the Pacific Basin, Alaska, and other U.S. locations as required
    โ€ข Ability to work overtime as needed

Preferred:
โ€ข Lineman school certification
โ€ข 1-3 years of structured cabling or telecom construction experience
โ€ข Industry certifications (as applicable)
โ€ข Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of telecommunications and fiber optic installation practices preferred
    โ€ข Familiarity with low-voltage overhead and underground construction techniques and standards preferred
    โ€ข Basic math skills with the ability to perform field calculations as needed
    โ€ข Strong verbal communication skills for coordination with crew members, supervisors, and customers
    โ€ข Ability to troubleshoot, solve problems, and work effectively in changing field conditions
    โ€ข Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
    โ€ข High attention to detail and sound decision-making in field environments
    โ€ข Ability to work independently and as part of a crew in a safe, professional, and respectful manner

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
The work environment described here is representative of conditions an employee will encounter while performing the essential functions of this position. This position is primarily field-based and requires work in a variety of outdoor environments, including exposure to extreme temperatures, rain, wind, and other weather conditions. Work sites may include urban and rural areas, construction zones, rights-of-way, timberlands, and varied terrain such as flat, hilly, and uneven surfaces. Work is performed outdoors and is subject to changing weather and driving conditions.
The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:
  • Work in proximity to low-voltage wiring using appropriate protective equipment, including insulated rubber gloves when required
    โ€ข Enter and work in confined spaces such as underground vaults accessed through manholes
    โ€ข Work in trenches and ditches during underground cable installation
    โ€ข Frequently lift, carry, and move materials and equipment up to 75 lbs., and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
    โ€ข Perform physical tasks involving bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions
    โ€ข Stand for extended periods, sit while driving, and walk on uneven terrain
    โ€ข Climb in and out of aerial lift buckets while carrying tools and equipment
    โ€ข Use hands and fingers for gripping, handling tools, and operating equipment controls
    โ€ข Enter and exit vehicles frequently in all weather conditions
    โ€ข Work in environments with exposure to noise from traffic and construction equipment
    โ€ข May be exposed to environmental factors such as pollen, insects (including bees and wasps), and wildlife
    โ€ข May be exposed to industrial chemicals and treated materials used in utility pole and cable work
    โ€ข Maintain alertness and concentration in all conditions, including night work, inclement weather, and extended shifts
    โ€ข Requires visual acuity (near and far), color vision, depth perception, and night vision
    โ€ข Must be able to hear and communicate effectively in high-noise environments and at distances while working in the field

COMPENSATION:
Pay range is $28.00 - $45.00 per hour, based on experience, plus benefits and eligibility for overtime.
