Job description


The Safety Specialist is responsible for promoting and enforcing a culture of safety across all job sites and operations. This role ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and industry standards while actively working to prevent workplace injuries and incidents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular job site safety inspections and audits

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local safety regulations

  • Lead safety orientations and ongoing safety training for field employees

  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and safety incidents; prepare detailed reports

  • Develop and implement corrective action plans

  • Maintain safety documentation including OSHA logs, training records, and certifications

  • Partner with operations managers and supervisors to reinforce safe work practices

  • Monitor PPE compliance and safe equipment operation

  • Assist in developing and updating company safety policies and procedures

  • Participate in safety committee meetings

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of safety experience in construction, telecom, utility, or industrial environments

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards (29 CFR 1926 preferred)

  • OSHA 30 certification (required or preferred)

  • CPR/First Aid certified

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to travel to job sites as needed

  • Strong communication and documentation skills

Preferred Experience (Telecom/Utility Environment)
  • Experience with aerial and underground telecom construction

  • Knowledge of fall protection, trench safety, confined space, and traffic control

  • Experience conducting tailgate meetings and job hazard analyses (JHAs)

  • DOT compliance familiarity

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk active job sites

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
