Civil Crew – Tower Communications Expert (TCE)

Location: Various field sites across Michigan and surrounding states
Reports to: Construction Manager
Department: Civil Construction
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Civil Crew plays a critical role in supporting TCE’s telecom construction projects, including new tower builds, modifications, and site development. This hands-on team is responsible for ground preparation, concrete work, trenching, conduit installation, grounding, and general site cleanup. Civil Crew Members work closely with Tower, Electrical, and RF teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to TCE’s quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the installation and construction of tower foundations, shelters, and site compounds
  • Operate hand and power tools, skid steers, mini excavators, trenchers, and other construction equipment
  • Perform concrete forming, pouring, and finishing
  • Install conduits, grounding systems, rebar cages, and fencing as directed
  • Load, unload, and organize materials, tools, and equipment at job sites
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following TCE’s safety procedures and OSHA standards
  • Work collaboratively with crew members and supervisors to complete daily tasks efficiently
  • Travel to job sites across Texas and neighboring states as required (overnight stays may be necessary)
  • Report equipment issues, hazards, or site concerns promptly to the Civil Foreman

Requirements:RequirementsQualifications
  • Experience: 1–3 years of general construction or civil telecom work preferred
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certifications: OSHA 10 (required or ability to obtain); First Aid/CPR and CDL a plus
  • Skills:
    • Basic understanding of concrete, grading, and underground utilities
    • Ability to read site plans and follow construction drawings
    • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to safely operate light and heavy equipment
    • Willingness to travel and work outdoors in various weather conditions
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs regularly
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments for extended periods

Must haves:

  • Ability to work with advanced hand/power tools and alignment tools
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard best practices
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be RF Awareness, CPR/FIRST AID, OSHA 10, Comtrain (or equivalent) certified
  • Must be able to travel away from home for 3 - 6 weeks at a time
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Must have basic hand tools, full climbing gear, boots, work clothes, PPE
  • Willingness to use TCE's systems and processes, including GPS enabled time-card system

Preferred:

  • Experience with all major carriers (TMOBILE, Verizon, AT&T)
  • NWSA TT1, TT2
  • Rigging
  • Knowledge and experience using test Equipment, ODM, PIM, Anritsu, OTDR
  • Ability to read SA and other paperwork
  • Ability to operate truck and trailer

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb and work on the towers, poles, buildings (no fear of heights)
  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 70 pounds
  • Must be able to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather (snow, rain, heat, high winds, etc.), long hours and variety of shifts (including night work)
  • Must be able to pass ongoing drug screen testing
