EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $18.50 WORK LOCATION: 53 Hunter Street, Apex, NC 27502 USA SCHEDULE: schedule varies with an average of 25 hours a month POSTING CLOSING DATE: September 10th, 2026, at 5:00 pm

Are you energetic, creative, and passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of young people? The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a dynamic Teen Program Leader to help shape memorable experiences for youth ages 11โ€“17. If so, please consider joining the Apex Team as a Program Support Assistant.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

An employee in this position assists with and leads teen recreation programs, social events, and trips. This position assists with program planning, implementation, and participant engagement. Ages for these teen programs range from 11-17. This position reports to the Recreation Program Supervisor at the John M. Brown Community Center. This position will assist with supervising teen participants. This position will average 25 hours a month - hours may vary depending on season.

A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS:

  • Leads and assists with recreational programs, trips and social events designed for teens.
  • Assists the Recreation Program Supervisor in program planning, implementation, marketing and evaluation.
  • Assists in the coordination of recreational trips, including providing on-site support to ensure the safety and satisfaction of participants.
  • Actively participates in activities alongside participants, fostering a fun, welcoming, and engaging environment.
  • Organizes and executes evening programs, weekend events, and day trips.
  • Assists with participant check-in/check-out procedures and maintains attendance records.
  • Assists in tracking participation trends and evaluating program success.
  • Provides excellent customer service to participants, parents, community members, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ensures program rules and safety procedures are followed
  • Performs related duties as required.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Graduation from high school and must be 18 years of age and available to work year-round. WITH...

  • Some knowledge of planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and events.
  • Ability to supervise and positively engage teens in a recreational setting.
  • Ability to follow directions and enforce rules and expectations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to drive a 14-passenger bus up to 100 miles each direction.
  • Possess good customer service skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Considerable knowledge of word processing, database maintenance, spreadsheet data entry, and other specific information technology applications.
  • Skill in customer service, including problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with participants, parents, staff, contractors, and the public.
