General Summary

The ideal candidate is a technically skilled, service-oriented professional with a strong focus on security. This role requires the ability to manage competing priorities across a broad range of technologies, adapt quickly to changing needs, and collaborate effectively with multiple departments. Reporting to the Supervisor of Hardware and Infrastructure, the Systems Administrator will support GTI Energyโ€™s Information Technology team by maintaining and enhancing a highly virtualized Microsoft environment. This role includes working with technologies such as Active Directory, Azure, cloud services, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Intune, NetApp SAN and NAS storage, cybersecurity tools, and backup solutions. The Systems Administrator will support day-to-day operations, contribute to IT process and project execution, assist with incident response and complex issue resolution, and play an active role in change management initiatives that strengthen and expand business systems.

Work Location

This position is based at GTI Energyโ€™s headquarters in Des Plaines, Illinois. Employees follow a hybrid work schedule and are expected to work on-site Tuesday through Thursday. Remote work on some Mondays and Fridays may be permitted based on business needs and IT support rotation requirements.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain Microsoft Intune, including application deployment, configuration profiles, compliance policies, endpoint security, and device provisioning.
  • Administer Microsoft Purview and DLP policies, including sensitive data classification, policy configuration, compliance monitoring, incident support, and data protection across Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Manage Microsoft Azure services, including cloud resources, virtual machines, storage, networking, identity access, monitoring, backups, security, and cost optimization.
  • Configure Active Directory, including user accounts, computer objects, security groups, Group Policy, permissions, domain controller health, authentication support, and access-related troubleshooting.
  • Operate and support cybersecurity tools, including endpoint protection, vulnerability scanning, threat detection, alert monitoring, reporting, incident response support, and security policy enforcement.
  • Manage backup solutions, including backup job configuration, recovery testing, retention policy management, failure monitoring, restore support, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery preparedness.
  • Monitor system capacity, performance, and health, and address issues before they affect business operations.
  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 technical support by administering and resolving tickets related to hardware, software, cloud services, infrastructure systems, complex technical issues, and outages.
  • Maintain business systems and technology tools, including implementing updates, new releases, and system improvements.
  • Support security through access controls, policies, procedures, and adherence to IT and organizational standards.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and failover activities for business applications and associated systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve system documentation, technical procedures, process workflows, and end-user instructions.
  • Support continuous improvement across IT systems, processes, and operational practices by recommending and implementing enhancements and contributing to IT-led and cross-functional technology projects.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoftโ€™s Intune and Purview/Data Loss Prevention (DLP), including core administrative functions, policy management, compliance monitoring, endpoint management, and data protection practices.
  • Deep understanding of hybrid identity, security, networking, and Microsoft 365 environments, including the interconnectivity between Microsoft Entra ID/Azure Active Directory, on-premises Active Directory, Group Policy, security controls, Azure networking, on-premises networking, firewalls, and trust relationships.
  • Working knowledge of network hardware administration, including switches, routers, and firewalls, along with network and systems troubleshooting methods, best practices, and operational support procedures
  • Proficiency with virtualized environments in both on-premises and cloud-based settings, including physical and virtual storage technologies, storage methodologies, and related infrastructure management practices.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Copilot.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to process information logically and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a commitment to responsive, high-quality support.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in information technology or a related field and 7+ years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates with a masterโ€™s degree may qualify with 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience as a Systems, Network, Azure, Cloud, Security, and/or SharePoint Administrator, or in a similar role, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell, Power BI, Power Apps, SharePoint Online, and/or web services is preferred.
  • Experience working in Linux environments is a plus.

Pay Transparency

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000 USD annually. This salary range is GTI Energyโ€™s good faith estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, GTI Energyโ€™s business or organizational needs and an individualโ€™s relevant experience, education, qualifications, certifications, skills, seniority, geographic location, and/or performance. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus. The range listed is just one component of GTI Energyโ€™s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, paid time off, and region-specific benefits.
