Job description
The Director of Technology & Innovation is responsible for leading BrightShore Mortgage's technology strategy, development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, systems administration, and day-to-day technology operations. This position serves as the Company’s senior technology leader and is accountable for ensuring BrightShore's technology environment is secure, reliable, scalable, well documented, and continually evolving to support BrightShore’s growth, operational objectives, borrower experience, and client needs.
The Director leads the continued development and enhancement of BrightShore's proprietary and internally developed technology, including Conversational AI, artificial intelligence and knowledge solutions, borrower and client applications, automation, data integrations, reporting capabilities, and other technology developed to improve the mortgage servicing experience. The position assumes responsibility for development activities previously supported through Deep Elevations and establishes these capabilities as part of BrightShore's internal technology organization.
This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining disciplined development practices, including project prioritization, development standards, source control, testing, user acceptance testing, change management, release management, production deployment, technical documentation, system architecture documentation, and ongoing application support. The Director will maintain a transparent technology roadmap and development backlog and provide regular updates to leadership regarding priorities, project status, upcoming releases, risks, dependencies, and completed enhancements.
The Director is also responsible for BrightShore's overall IT environment, including infrastructure, servers and cloud environments, networks, devices, applications, user access, system availability, technology vendors, ticketing and support processes, backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity technology. The position establishes appropriate service levels and escalation procedures and utilizes ticketing, monitoring, and reporting to ensure technology issues are properly documented, prioritized, followed through, and resolved timely.
Cybersecurity and information protection are critical responsibilities of the position. The Director works with internal resources and external partners to maintain appropriate security controls, access management, vulnerability and patch management, endpoint protection, monitoring, incident response, backup and recovery capabilities, and other safeguards necessary to protect BrightShore, borrower, client, and employee information. The position also supports SOC examinations, regulatory reviews, investor and client due diligence, audits, risk assessments, and other technology and information security requirements.
The Director leads and develops BrightShore's technology team and coordinates internal team members, developers, contractors, and technology vendors. This is a hands‑on leadership position requiring the Director to actively participate in technology development, troubleshooting, architecture, implementation, documentation, project management, and problem resolution while also establishing priorities and holding team members and vendors accountable for results.
A key responsibility of the role is identifying opportunities to use technology, artificial intelligence, automation, data, and system integration to improve how BrightShore operates. The Director partners with business leaders and team members to understand operational challenges, evaluate potential solutions, prioritize development opportunities, and deliver technology that reduces manual work, improves accuracy, strengthens controls, enhances the borrower and client experience, and allows the organization to scale efficiently.
The Director will establish meaningful technology performance measures, including system availability, ticket response and resolution times, project delivery, development backlog, release cadence, defects, cybersecurity remediation, vendor performance, and other measures necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of the technology organization.
Success in this role requires more than maintaining existing technology. The Director of Technology & Innovation is expected to continuously challenge how BrightShore uses technology and lead the development of new capabilities that differentiate the Company within the mortgage servicing industry. The successful candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with hands‑on execution, leadership, creativity, sound judgment, documentation discipline, cybersecurity awareness, and a strong sense of ownership while building a technology organization capable of supporting BrightShore's continued growth.
Core Competencies:- Technology Leadership: Provides clear direction for BrightShore's technology environment while remaining actively involved in development, implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
- Innovation & Forward Thinking: Continuously evaluates new technologies, artificial intelligence, automation, data solutions, and development opportunities that can improve operations, scalability, borrower experience, and client value.
- Hands-On Technical Capability: Possesses sufficient technical depth to understand systems, applications, infrastructure, integrations, development environments, and security issues and can actively participate when necessary rather than relying exclusively on vendors or team members.
- Software Development Leadership: Effectively manages the development lifecycle from business requirements and prioritization through development, testing, deployment, documentation, release, and ongoing support.
- Artificial Intelligence & Automation: Understands practical applications of AI, Conversational AI, RAG and knowledge solutions, workflow automation, and emerging technologies and can translate business opportunities into reliable production solutions.
- Cybersecurity & Risk Management: Maintains a security-first mindset and ensures appropriate controls are incorporated into infrastructure, application development, access management, integrations, vendors, and technology operations.
- Ownership & Accountability: Takes responsibility for technology outcomes from identification through resolution. Ensures issues, tickets, projects, security findings, development items, and vendor commitments are followed through to completion.
- Project & Priority Management: Effectively manages competing development, infrastructure, security, support, and business priorities while maintaining a transparent roadmap, backlog, ownership, and expected delivery timelines.
- Documentation Discipline: Ensures technology does not depend on undocumented institutional knowledge. Maintains appropriate system documentation, architecture, procedures, configurations, development records, change histories, release notes, inventories, and recovery documentation.
- Operational Excellence: Establishes repeatable, scalable, and measurable technology processes that improve system reliability, service levels, development quality, support responsiveness, and overall technology performance.
- Problem Solving & Root-Cause Analysis: Looks beyond immediate fixes to determine why technology issues occurred and implements sustainable solutions that prevent recurrence.
- Data & Integration Mindset: Understands the importance of accurate, secure, and reliable movement of data between servicing systems, applications, vendors, reporting platforms, APIs, data flows, configurations, development standards, procedures, credentials management, vendor dependencies, recovery procedures, and other critical technology information.
- Borrower & Client Experience Focus: Evaluates technology through the experience of the people using it and ensures technology solutions are intuitive, reliable, responsive, and designed to make interactions easier rather than more complicated.
- Leadership & Team Development: Establishes clear expectations, develops team members, appropriately delegates responsibilities, provides coaching and feedback, and creates accountability for quality, timelines, documentation, and results.
- Vendor Management: Effectively manages technology partners and vendors by establishing expectations, monitoring performance, challenging unnecessary costs or delays, and ensuring third parties remain accountable for their commitments.
- Communication & Transparency: Communicates technology concepts, risks, project status, outages, releases, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Provides leadership with timely and meaningful updates rather than requiring others to seek out project status.
- Change Management: Implements technology changes in a controlled manner with appropriate testing, approvals, documentation, communication, deployment planning, and post-production validation.
- Continuous Improvement: Regularly challenges existing technology, processes, vendors, architecture, and development methods to identify opportunities to improve performance, security, cost, scalability, and user experience.
- Business Acumen: Understands that technology exists to support the business. Balances technical considerations with operational needs, regulatory requirements, financial impact, borrower experience, client expectations, and organizational priorities.
- Adaptability & Sense of Urgency: Operates effectively in a rapidly growing environment where priorities can change quickly and responds appropriately to production issues, security concerns, business needs, and emerging opportunities.
- Professionalism & Integrity: Demonstrates sound judgment, protects confidential and sensitive information, communicates candidly, accepts responsibility for results, and maintains high ethical and professional standards.
- Directly supervises assigned Technology, Development, Systems, Infrastructure, and other technical team members.
- Provides leadership, direction, coaching, and development to team members while establishing clear expectations for performance, quality, responsiveness, documentation, security, and accountability.
- Establishes individual and team priorities aligned with the BrightShore’s technology roadmap, development backlog, operational needs, cybersecurity requirements, and strategic objectives.
- Assigns and prioritizes development projects, technology initiatives, support responsibilities, system enhancements, and other work based on business impact, risk, urgency, and available resources.
- Monitors employee workload, project progress, ticket queues, development commitments, and completion timelines and proactively addresses delays, capacity constraints, or performance concerns.
- Establishes measurable performance expectations and regularly evaluates team effectiveness, productivity, quality, service levels, project delivery, and achievement of established objectives.
- Conducts regular individual and team meetings to review priorities, projects, challenges, development opportunities, and performance.
- Provides timely coaching and feedback and works with team members to strengthen technical capabilities, problem-solving skills, documentation practices, business knowledge, and professional development.
- Builds appropriate cross-training and knowledge transfer within the technology team to reduce key-person dependencies and ensure critical systems and processes are supported by more than one individual.
- Ensures team members appropriately document systems, development, configurations, procedures, changes, troubleshooting steps, and other technical knowledge.
- Establishes appropriate development, testing, change-management, cybersecurity, access-management, and technology-support standards and holds team members accountable for following established processes.
- Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, onboarding, development, performance management, and retention of Technology team members.
- Identifies staffing, skill, technology, and resource needs as BrightShore grows and makes recommendations to leadership regarding appropriate additions or changes to the technology organization.
- Coordinates internal employees, contractors, consultants, developers, managed service providers, and other technology vendors to ensure responsibilities are clearly defined and work is completed timely and effectively.
- Creates a culture of ownership where team members are expected to identify problems, propose solutions, communicate challenges early, document their work, and follow assignments through final resolution.
- Encourages innovation and continuous improvement while maintaining appropriate controls, testing, security, documentation, and change-management discipline.
- Ensures the Technology team provides responsive and professional support to Company team members and maintains appropriate communication regarding technology issues, outages, project status, and resolution timelines.
- Performs other supervisory and leadership responsibilities as required to support the continued growth and effectiveness of BrightShore's technology organization.
- Lead the overall Technology function for BrightShore Mortgage, including application development, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, systems administration, cybersecurity, technology support, integrations, automation, and technology vendors.
- Develop, maintain, and execute a technology roadmap aligned with the BrightShore’s strategic objectives, growth plans, operational priorities, borrower experience, and client needs.
- Take ownership of BrightShore's internally developed technology and transition appropriate development activities previously performed through Deep Elevations into a disciplined, documented, and scalable BrightShore technology environment.
