Job description

We are seeking a Design Technology Director to be responsible for Building Information Modeling (BIM), digital design, and technology infrastructure. This role partners with firm leadership to shape and execute technology strategy, while overseeing the team responsible for supporting our project teams.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute design technology strategy, software integration plans, and R&D budgets alongside firm leadership

  • Oversee all Design Technology and BIM support staff, providing mentorship and resource allocation across projects

  • Own the firm's digital standards: templates, execution plans, automation workflows, and best practices across all production platforms

  • Oversee digital twin, visualization (VR/AR), and environmental simulation efforts to elevate project delivery

  • Lead development and strategic evolution of computational design workflows, custom scripts, and emerging technology tools

  • Support internal teams such as IT (for infrastructure deployment) and Project Management (for tech risk assessment and project setup)

  • Research and present to leadership target technologies, software advancements, AI integrations, and digital trends in the AEC industry

  • Evaluate and improve digital design tools and systems, ensuring software interoperability and data health

  • Ensure quality control and digital audits across complex project models; maintain data security and confidentiality

  • Drive studio-wide adoption of design technology, building and leading training programs that upskill teams and embed new tools into daily workflows

Minimum Qualifications

  • Senior Technology Management: Progressive experience in design technology leadership with proven experience managing a team of direct reports

  • Industry-Specific Knowledge: Deep experience working within the AEC industry, thoroughly understanding architectural and engineering workflows

  • BIM & Delivery Lifecycle: Experience leading complex, multi-discipline BIM coordination, writing BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), and managing large-scale model exchanges across senior stakeholders

  • Strong technical, verbal, and written communication skills (ability to translate complex tech workflows to non-technical staff and clients)

  • Proficiency in core AEC technology tools (Autodesk Revit, Rhino, Navisworks) with a strong understanding of visual programming/computational tools (Dynamo, Grasshopper)

  • Degree / Credentials: Bachelor's degree in architecture, architectural engineering, construction management, computer science, or a related field is preferred
