Performs advanced molecular biology and genetics techniques and procedures in a CLIA/CAP clinical molecular diagnostic laboratory.
Description
Primary duties will include DNA/RNA extraction, sequencing and genotyping of human DNA/RNA samples using microarrays, next-generation sequencing and real-time PCR. The laboratory is active in new test and technology development.
Must have a strong sense of responsibility and urgency, be flexible, must be detailed oriented, and have excellent organizational and communication skills. This position works as a member of an integrated laboratory team. Must be able to work independently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Receives specimens and completes all necessary test documentation into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
โ€ข Performs high complexity molecular tests offered on the clinical test menu by following the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the laboratory.
โ€ข Performs quality control and calibrations, as required.
โ€ข Performs post-test analyses and data review to ensure accurate test result reporting.
โ€ข Recognizes problems and performs assay troubleshooting.
โ€ข Understands and follows the proficiency testing policies to comply with CAP standards.
โ€ข Regularly participates in CAP proficiency testing or other competence assessments in the laboratory and participate in periodic regulatory inspections.
โ€ข Participates in the development, validation and maintenance of high complexity clinical tests.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Train laboratory personnel as requested by laboratory management.
โ€ข Coordinate, monitor or perform additional tasks at the request of management such as assisting Quality Assurance Supervisor.
โ€ข Lead day-to-day tasks at the request of laboratory management.
Required education and skills:
โ€ข Bachelor's or master's degree in biological, chemical or medical laboratory sciences.
โ€ข Proficient in MS office applications (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
โ€ข Ability to adapt to change efficiently.
โ€ข Knowledge of and skills in good molecular genetic laboratory practices including extraction of nucleic acids from human blood and tissues, standard and real-time PCR, and next-generation library prep and sequencing.
Preferred skills:
โ€ข Previous laboratory experience, clinical laboratory preferred.
โ€ข Next generation sequencing experience using an Illumina NextSeq 2000 or NovaSeq X instrument.
โ€ข Next generation sequencing experience using Oxford Nanopore Technologies long read protocols.
โ€ข Next generation sequencing library construction experience.
โ€ข Certification in laboratory specialty through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent is a plus.
โ€ข Experience with quality control and assurance processes in clinical laboratories. Working knowledge of development of genotyping, mutation detection and sequencing assays.
