Communication Writer/Editor - ONR

Location: Herndon, VA / Remote

Position Overview

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is seeking a skilled Communication Writer/Editor to support its Naval STEM Outreach initiatives and other communication efforts. The ideal candidate will have strong technical writing and editing experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage outreach materials and events that promote STEM opportunities within the Department of the Navy (DON).

Key Responsibilities
  • Write, edit, and proofread technical and outreach content for various platforms including web, print, and presentations.
  • Develop and implement content strategies to effectively communicate DON STEM programs and opportunities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support STEM events including conferences, career fairs, and student competitions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance Naval STEM outreach and engagement efforts.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience in technical writing and/or editing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, specifically Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint Online, Teams, and Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Recent experience in proofreading, content strategy, and writing for multiple platforms (web, print, etc.).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance prior to award.
