Job description

MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Technical Writer to join our team on-site in Washington, D.C.

This roles supports the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Intelligence and Security (OUSW[I&S]). The individual will prepare, review, and maintain strategic and technical documentation to support defense initiatives and leadership decision-making.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Write clear, high-level technical copy and documentation for defense and intelligence initiatives.
  • Prepare and maintain strategic plans, operational guides, user manuals, and executive publications.
  • Gather complex technical and operational information to draft structured text, reports, and leadership briefings.
  • Maintain an internal documentation library of strategic policies, frameworks, and technical standards.
  • Format executive-level publications and presentations using standard office productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, Visio).
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, and stakeholders across all phases of the documentation lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree + 8 years of relevant technical writing experience (or Master’s + 6 years, or 12 years of experience in lieu of a degree).
  • Experience supporting Federal Government programs within the Defense & Intelligence sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to research complex technical subjects and synthesize multi-source data into executive-level content.
  • Ability to translate technical documentation, policy frameworks, and SME input into cohesive deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience writing or editing strategic documentation, intelligence briefings, or executive reports for leadership.
  • Familiarity with executive decision-support processes and strategic intelligence missions.
  • Track record of independently managing and maintaining complex systems documentation.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Active TS/SCI.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and constant operation of a computer.
  • Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
