Inside the Role

The Aftermarket Technical Communications team (TechComm) specializes in publishing and communicating technical, operational, and service information to truck drivers and service technicians. This position leads the packaging of technical content provided by subject matter experts and other sources which is delivered to these audiences.
Our technical content is sourced from varied types of information, including repair instructions, diagnostic procedures, engineering information, and other technical sources. These sources come in the form of text, video, animations, and more. The content is authored in PTC's Arbortext XML editor, managed in PTC's Windchill content management system, published in HTML for web delivery and PDF for print.
This position requires skills in technical writing, communication, using XML software, giving presentations and data analytics. Our forward-looking vision is to implement new digital tools and processes that closely align with engineering sources and the future needs of our customers. We need someone who can help us know our customers better and drive improvements in how we deliver content.

  • Write documentation about technical products, systems, processes, research findings, etc. for internal and external audiences.
  • Determinean effective structure and layout for complex manuals and other technical documents.
  • Conduct research and liaise with technical staff to ensureaccurateinterpretation of complex technical content.
  • Ensure thatappropriate technicalcontent and terminology reviews occur for all updates and new publications.
  • Edit content to improve clarity, impact, flow, meaning, and readability.

    Knowledge You Should Bring

    • BS/BA in English, Writing, Technical Writing, or Journalism or related degree
    • 2 years of experience in Technical Writing or 4 years of experience in Technical Writing in lieu of degree
    • Demonstrated analytical skills and critical thinking
    • Demonstrated skill to develop and format technical manualsand bulletinswith an emphasis on readability
    • In-depth knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary
    • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple,short turnaround, criticalprojects
    • An attached resume is required

    Exceptional Candidates Might Have

    • Experience developing content using XML (DITA Format)/SGML/HTML
    • Knowledge of automotive and or commercial truck systems and components
    • Experience interfacing with electrical or mechanical engineers
