Job description

Position Type:
Athletics/Activities/Drama Club Technical Advisor
Date Posted:
5/4/2026
Location:
Concord High School
Date Available:
08/27/2026
Concord High School seeks a creative and skilled Technical Director to oversee all technical and scenic aspects of its award-winning Drama Club productions. The ideal candidate is both an artist and a craftsman - someone who envisions the stage as a storytelling canvas and brings that vision to life through innovative, theatrical design and construction. This individual must have strong technical theater experience, carpentry and building skills, and the ability to think like a theater builder, not a home builder - crafting sets that are safe, efficient, and theatrical in nature.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, plan, and oversee the construction, painting, and installation of all scenic elements for Drama Club productions.
  • Collaborate closely with the Drama Club Director, student crews, parent crews and design teams to realize each show's artistic vision.
  • Teach and mentor students in technical theater, set design, and stagecraft techniques.
  • Manage scenic shop operations, including tools, materials, and safety procedures.
  • Develop and maintain budgets for scenic design and construction; source materials cost-effectively.
  • Operate and maintain all auditorium technical systems, including audio, lighting, projection, and control equipment.
  • Provide technical support and supervision for school productions, concerts, assemblies, meetings, and external rentals.
  • Train and supervise student and staff crews in safe and proper use of theater equipment and technology.
  • Coordinate with lighting, sound, costume, and props teams to ensure cohesive production design.
  • Oversee strike and storage following each production, maintaining an organized and safe workspace.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair auditorium equipment as needed; recommend upgrades or replacements.
  • Maintain inventory of technical equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Model and uphold high standards of professionalism, creativity, and collaboration.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience in scenic or technical direction for theatrical productions.
  • Proficiency in scenic design, carpentry, painting, rigging, and stagecraft.
  • Knowledge of theatrical materials, construction techniques, and safety practices.
  • Strong artistic sensibility with the ability to translate design concepts into functional, theatrical builds.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to mentor and inspire students in hands-on, creative work.

Ideal Candidate Attributes
  • A visionary artist who sees the stage as a canvas for storytelling.
  • A builder who thinks creatively and practically within the unique demands of live theater.
  • A teacher who empowers students to safely and confidently bring designs to life.
  • A collaborator dedicated to upholding Concord High School's tradition of exceptional theatrical production quality.
