Position Summary

The Onsite Field Service Calibration Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Onsite Department, ensuring calibrations are completed accurately, safely, and in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and customer requirements. This role manages scheduling, resources, and documentation while providing technical guidance, supporting customer needs, and driving continuous improvement in quality, efficiency, and service delivery.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the Onsite Department, including scheduling technicians, allocating resources, and ensuring readiness of equipment, supplies, and job packages.
  • Ensure calibration processes are performed in compliance with Essco and customer procedures, with accurate and timely documentation of all data, results, and scope changes.
  • Provide technical support, guidance, and mentorship to team members; foster knowledge sharing, recommend training and cross-training opportunities, and support workforce development.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including Lab, Quality, Sales, and Executive Management, to align goals, address customer needs, and pursue new business opportunities
  • Promote effective communication, planning, and coordination within the department and across all stakeholders to drive efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Respond to customer inquiries with professionalism, provide solutions, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction while maintaining integrity and adherence to company policies.
  • Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to processes, techniques, and instrumentation to enhance productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintain compliance with governing standards, company policies, and safety practices; proactively identify risks and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Lead or participate in team meetings and project initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and supporting department growth.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry best practices, technical advancements, and evolving customer needs.
  • Model the Company’s values to influence others to perform in an aligned manner.
  • Ensure training and development plans are in place and communicated to employees to drive performance improvement and career progression.
  • Complete and deliver accurate, thorough, and prescriptive employee performance reviews on the required timeline.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of regulations and industry standards for aerospace, life science, and military product lines, with a developed working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
  • Ability to apply statistical methods for evaluating measurement standards, analyzing processes, and recommending improvements to calibration methods, procedures, and instrumentation.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and applying strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills to identify issues and implement solutions.
  • Proficiency with calibration management and enterprise software (e.g., IndySoft, MET/CAL, ACT, QuickBooks, Kaizen Software Solutions, and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate projects, and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities including active listening, teamwork, flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to confidentiality and integrity.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent military and/or training may be considered.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in calibration and as a field technician, testing, or engineering within a commercial or military calibration laboratory.
  • Demonstrated experience with root cause analysis and data analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); SharePoint and Teams experience preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred, including planning, coordination, and oversight of technical projects.
