The Opportunity
This opportunity is with JBT Marel's Fresh Produce Technologies division. We supply products and services to fresh fruit and vegetable packers to ensure these valuable crops arrive in a fresh and appealing condition to the consumer. The JBT Marel Technical Service Advisor is a valuable ally to fresh produce packers, and an important part of the team that is helping bring fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables to the world's table.
On a given day, you may:
  • Conduct visits to customer sites to observe operations.
  • Identify areas for improvement in product performance and customer processes.
  • Offer advice and guidance to optimize the performance of JBT's products.
  • Troubleshoot issues and implementing solutions.
  • Help customers anticipate seasonal trends that may impact their products negatively.
  • Offer solutions to mitigate potential problems.
  • Provide advice on pesticide use for decay control of produce.
  • Write pesticide recommendations.
  • Monitor for pesticide resistance and suggest appropriate actions.
  • Provide training to customers on various topics related to product usage and optimization.
  • Assist customers with food safety compliance as it pertains to JBT Marel's product offerings.
  • Work closely with Sales team to understand customer needs and feedback.
  • Collaborate with R&D team to introduce new products to commercial use.
  • Provide insights from customer interactions to inform product development and improvement initiatives.

Requirements for the role
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Biology, Horticulture or related scientific field. Preferred course work in postharvest physiology and pathology, citrus science or postharvest technology.
  • Must hold a California Pest Control Advisor's license at time of employment or within 6 months of employment. Must maintain valid license at all times through attending courses for CEUs (supported by JBT).
  • Valid Driver's License. A company vehicle will be provided.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understand and contribute to Food Safety processes.
  • Should be comfortable multi-tasking and pays attention to detail.
  • Conscientious and self-motivated; able to work without direct supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to use a computer and Microsoft products (Office, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Willing to work out of town, out of state and internationally if needed
  • Strong math skills.
  • Availability for extended hours, overnights, weekends and/or variable schedules, especially during the processing season (ex. work 8+ hours per day, up to 7 days per week) if needed.
  • Must be reliable and a team player.

Preferred Requirement:
  • Basic understanding of agricultural practices (pre and post-harvest), preferably in citrus processing.
  • Experience handling chemicals & working w/ postharvest chemical application systems.
  • Postharvest and/or citrus related work experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety practices and guidelines.
  • Course work in postharvest physiology and pathology, citrus science or postharvest technology.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in various conditions, including indoor/outdoor weather, moving industrial machinery, chemicals and fumes, noisy or dusty environments.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb, squat and step up/down for various amounts of time and paces.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Capability to lift, push, pull and move materials, typically up to 50 pounds.
  • Hand Use: Frequent use of hands and fingers for handling equipment and performing tasks.
  • This position is considered a safety sensitive position; thus, employee may be subjected to randomized drug testing.

Salary:
The estimated annual salary range for this role is $87,000-$116,000. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience.
