What is a technical support engineer?

Technical support engineers work with companies to solve technical issues within their computer systems. As a technical support engineer, you troubleshoot computer hardware and software issues with employees. You work to resolve the problems and try to prevent them from happening again. Some technical support engineers work primarily over the phone or computer, guiding the staff to fix the problems remotely. For more substantial issues, technical support engineers may travel to the client’s office to resolve the issue in person.

What does a technical support engineer do?

A Technical Support Engineer helps customers and clients troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to products or services. They provide assistance via phone, email, chat, or in person, and may also guide users through installation, configuration, and maintenance processes. In addition to solving immediate problems, Technical Support Engineers often document solutions, escalate complex issues, and work with development or engineering teams to resolve deeper technical challenges. Their goal is to ensure customer satisfaction by delivering effective and timely support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a technical support engineer?

To thrive as a Technical Support Engineer, you need a strong foundation in troubleshooting, computer networking, and system diagnostics, often supported by a degree in IT or computer science. Technical Support Engineers frequently work cross-functionally with teams such as development, quality assurance, and product management to resolve complex technical problems. When an issue cannot be resolved through standard troubleshooting, engineers escalate cases and share detailed findings with these departments. This collaboration ensures that customer feedback is communicated, bugs are addressed, and permanent solutions are implemented. Job description

Do you enjoy digging into challenging technical problems and finding creative solutions? If you're passionate about technology and enjoy learning how complex software systems work, we'd love to hear from you.
This is an exciting opportunity to strengthen both your development and technical troubleshooting skills while working with enterprise software used by organizations around the world. You'll gain experience with leading CRM and ERP platforms, SQL Server, web technologies, and cloud-hosted applications-all while building highly transferable technical skills.
This is not your typical call center support position. You'll work alongside experienced technical professionals to solve complex customer issues, collaborate across Engineering and Professional Services, and continually expand your technical expertise in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Experlogix is seeking a Technical Support Engineer II with strong technical aptitude and a passion for solving challenging software problems. The ideal candidate enjoys understanding how software works, is comfortable troubleshooting databases, web applications, and integrations, and has experience with .NET technologies-or a strong desire to learn them.
In this role, you'll provide high-quality technical support for our CPQ software and its integrations with ERP and CRM platforms while working closely with teammates to resolve complex technical issues and continuously grow your technical knowledge.
*This is a remote position and can be located anywhere within the United States or Canada.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Tier II technical support escalations, delivering timely and effective solutions that ensure customer success.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to Experlogix CPQ software, SQL Server databases, ERP and CRM integrations, and web-based applications.
  • Collaborate with Product Development, Professional Services, and other cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Develop and maintain technical expertise in Experlogix products, Microsoft technologies, ERP systems, CRM platforms, and SQL Server.
  • Document troubleshooting steps, root causes, and resolutions within the company knowledge base.
  • Identify recurring issues and provide feedback that improves product quality, support processes, and the customer experience.
  • Participate in ongoing technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions to continually expand your technical skill set.

Skills & Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in technical support, application support, software development, IT support, or similar technical roles.
  • Experience supporting enterprise software solutions such as Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce, NetSuite, or other ERP and CRM platforms is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Server with basic to intermediate proficiency writing SQL queries for troubleshooting and data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of web server technologies such as Internet Information Services (IIS), Windows Server, Apache, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, and REST-based APIs.
  • Exposure to object-oriented programming concepts or scripting languages is helpful. Experience with .NET is a plus, but a willingness to learn is equally valued.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues while demonstrating a strong sense of ownership.
  • Experience configuring virtual machines and remote desktop connections.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Curiosity, persistence, and a passion for learning new technologies and solving challenging technical problems.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
  • Certifications related to Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce, Azure, or CPQ technologies are a plus but not required.
