Job description

Production Support Engineer (SQL / Data Operations)

Location: Fully Remote (Eastern time zone preferred)

Hire Type: Contract-to-Hire

Overview:

Our client is seeking a Production Support Engineer to support enterprise data and reporting platforms in a fast-paced environment. This position is ideal for someone with experience supporting SQL-based applications, troubleshooting production issues, monitoring system health, and partnering with technical teams to maintain reliable business operations.

This is not a software development role and is not intended for a senior DBA. Instead, we're looking for a hands-on support professional who enjoys solving problems, investigating issues, monitoring critical processes, and serving as a trusted operational resource for internal teams.

Candidates who have worked in application support, database support, production operations, or technical support environments are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational support for business-critical data and reporting platforms.
  • Investigate system alerts, processing failures, performance concerns, and data-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot SQL queries and assist with data validation and analysis.
  • Support scheduled jobs, automated workflows, and recurring production processes.
  • Monitor application and platform health to help ensure system availability and stability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, analytics, and business teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Manage support tickets and drive incidents through resolution.
  • Assist with user access requests, system changes, and deployment validation activities.
  • Document troubleshooting procedures, known issues, and operational processes.
  • Identify recurring problems and recommend process improvements to reduce support volume.
  • Communicate status updates, risks, and resolution plans to stakeholders.

What We're Looking For:

Success in this role will depend on more than technical skills alone. The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Takes ownership of issues from identification through resolution.
  • Is highly reliable and follows through on commitments.
  • Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Can work independently while knowing when to escalate issues.
  • Enjoys troubleshooting and supporting mission-critical business systems.
  • Brings a proactive, customer-focused approach to support and operations.

If you have a blend of SQL experience, production support expertise, and a strong sense of accountability, we'd love to speak with you.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in production support, application support, database support, or technical operations.
  • Strong SQL skills, including query writing and troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server or similar relational database environments.
  • Familiarity with database concepts and basic database administration activities.
  • Experience diagnosing production issues and working support tickets through resolution.
  • Understanding of scheduling tools, monitoring systems, alerts, and batch processing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage priorities.
