Job description

Job Title: Technical Manager                          

Reports to: Senior Director of Service & Watchmaking                                                  

Division: Corporate, Service

The Technical Manager is responsible for the end-to-end operational leadership of the watchmaking workshop, ensuring excellence in quality, productivity, technical standards, and team development. They are an accountable leader who drives performance through data, process discipline, and people leadership, aligned with Bucherer’s standards and long-term service strategy.

The Technical Manager serves as the primary operational leader within the workshop, translating strategic direction into daily execution while building a high-performance culture.

Job Responsibilities:

Workshop Operations & Throughput

  • Manage and facilitate the day-to-day operations of the LIC workshop, ensuring the efficient progression of repairs throughout the service process.
  • Drive workshop output, turnaround time, workflow efficiency, and productivity while maintaining alignment with service expectations and operational priorities.
  • Balance workshop capacity and workload, proactively identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions to support throughput and efficiency.
  • Ensure proper allocation, prioritization, and distribution of work to maximize workshop productivity and technical effectiveness.
  • Partner with estimating, quality control, and workshop logistics functions to maintain consistent workflow intake, execution, and completion.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of technical standards, repair procedures, and best practices across the workshop.

Technical Leadership, Coaching & Development

  • Directly manage watchmakers and technicians, establishing clear expectations around quality, productivity, accountability, and professionalism while partnering with departmental leaders to ensure alignment across workshop operations.
  • Provide daily leadership, coaching, and developmental feedback to support technical growth, skill development, and operational consistency throughout the workshop.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, attendance management, coaching discussions, and corrective action in partnership with Human Resources as needed.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, workforce planning, and succession development to strengthen workshop capability and long-term organizational growth.
  • Partner with training resources and technical leadership to identify skill gaps and support ongoing technical development and certification objectives.

Quality, Standards & Performance

  • Ensure repairs meet Bucherer and brand technical and quality standards while reinforcing adherence to established procedures and best practices.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical repairs, workmanship concerns, and operational issues requiring leadership support.
  • Partner closely with Quality Control leadership to reduce rework, improve repair consistency, and strengthen first-pass quality outcomes.
  • Monitor workshop performance and identify recurring quality, productivity, or workflow challenges, implementing sustainable solutions to improve overall workshop effectiveness.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, technical excellence, and high performance throughout the workshop.

Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership experience managing technical teams within watchmaking, service operations, manufacturing, or other skilled technical environments, with the ability to coach, develop, and hold employees accountable for performance.
  • Rolex certification, or equivalent technical expertise, with a strong understanding of Rolex repair processes, quality standards, and workshop best practices.
  • Strong understanding of watchmaking operations, technical repair processes, workflow management, and quality control within a service center environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear direction, build alignment across functions, and maintain professionalism in a fast-paced operational setting.
  • Highly organized and operationally disciplined, with experience overseeing productivity, workload distribution, resource planning, and departmental performance.
  • Proven ability to identify operational challenges, implement process improvements, and drive measurable results through process discipline and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborative, hands-on leader who utilizes operational metrics and data to support decision making while fostering a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and teamwork.

Compensation Range: $130K - $140K
