Job description

Purpose of the Position:

Safety is the most important component of our business, and the shop manager is responsible for the safety of all transportation equipment, providing support to comply with all Federal and State regulations. This individual will plan and execute a successful Department of Transportation (DOT) yearly inspection for each company listed. Managing workflow for efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Scope:

The Shop Manager reports to the company owners and the on-site General Manager. This position is responsible for the management of technicians, shop crew and maintenance crew to complete a successful inspection. This individual will provide a safe and effective work environment for the efficiency of work to be completed. This individual will work alongside his/her technicians.

This position requires the successful candidate to stand for long periods of time, to stoop, squat, reach and lift as much as 100 pounds. The work environment will be loud. Salary of $65,000-75,000, with medical and dental benefits, a tool allowance and possible inspection bonus.

Skills and Duty Requirements:

ASE Certified, knowledge of diesel and gas engine repair, diagnostic experience, repair of transmissions, suspensions and exhaust systems. Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems; including bus camera equipment, two-way radio systems and GPS systems.

Knowledge of DOT regulations and state and federal laws as they apply to the safety and maintenance of school bus equipment.

Experience with repair of special needs transportation equipment including wheelchair lifts, and safety constraints for the safe transportation of Special Needs students.

 Upkeep and repair of brake systems, suspensions and steering components.

Must possess and maintain a current CDL License and be available to drive as a substitute bus driver.

Management experience is a must; with the ability to motivate, consult, teach and oversee all tasks you assign to technicians. This individual is responsible for the oversight of work schedules and the successful completion of tasks assigned.

Upkeep of the Manager Plus Maintenance Program to include work orders, parts ordering, inventory and services to be completed.

Effective communication between the shop and the dispatch office and administrative team, including company owners.

Other duties as assigned by management. These duties could include but are not limited to body work, building and maintenance oversight, snow plowing and any other requested duties.
