  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, forecasts, contracts, documentation, and overall financial performance.
  • Coordinate with KDOT, municipalities, engineering departments, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal field teams.
  • Review plans, specifications, estimates, scopes, and contract requirements before construction begins.
  • Partner with superintendents and field leadership to develop practical schedules, resource plans, and execution strategies.
  • Track production, labor, equipment, materials, committed costs, and project profitability.
  • Prepare and manage subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, pay applications, and project correspondence.
  • Identify cost, schedule, scope, and constructability risks early and develop solutions before they affect the project.
  • Attend owner meetings, progress meetings, site visits, and project reviews as required.
  • Maintain clear communication with leadership regarding project status, risks, financials, and upcoming decisions.
  • Support estimating and bid reviews when needed, particularly for projects that may transition into your portfolio.
  • Help improve project management systems and processes as the company continues to grow.

  • Experience managing DOT, municipal, or comparable public infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of project budgets, cost forecasting, scheduling, change management, billing, and contract administration.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, estimates, and contract documents.
  • Experience coordinating self-performed field work, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and public-agency stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, production rates, equipment needs, and field operations.
  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work primarily from the Wichita office while attending site and owner meetings as needed.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to travel to projects throughout the regional service area.

Nice-to-Haves as the Heavy Civil Project Manager:

  • Direct experience with KDOT requirements, documentation, and project delivery.
  • Familiarity with Wichita-area municipalities, public works departments, and local engineering firms.
  • Experience managing concrete paving, bridge, storm sewer, waterline, underground utility, earthwork, or roadway projects.
  • Experience working for a self-performing heavy civil contractor.
  • Estimating, preconstruction, or bid-review experience.
  • Existing relationships with regional subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and agency representatives.
  • A degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience using heavy civil project management, cost-control, scheduling, and document-management software.

We Offer:

  • Base salary targeted between $110,000 and $150,000+ based on experience and project background
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield medical coverage, including company-paid employee-only coverage.
  • Family medical coverage with an employer contribution and flexibility for the right candidate.
  • A 401(k) plan with a 3% company match.
  • A company truck for commuting, site visits, and job-related travel.
  • Flexibility to match or improve vacation and benefit arrangements for an experienced competitor hire.
  • A stable, family-owned environment with direct access to company leadership.
  • Initial support and guidance followed by meaningful autonomy.
  • Limited bureaucracy and a leadership team that trusts experienced employees to manage their work.
  • The opportunity to help a rapidly growing contractor strengthen its project management function and pursue larger infrastructure projects.
