What is a technical project manager in software?

A Technical Project Manager in software is a professional responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing software development projects. They bridge the gap between technical teams and stakeholders, ensuring that development goals align with business objectives. Their duties include managing timelines, budgets, resources, and risks while facilitating communication between developers, designers, and clients. Technical Project Managers often have a background in software engineering or IT, enabling them to understand technical challenges and guide teams effectively.

How does a technical project manager in software typically coordinate between development teams and stakeholders?

Technical Project Managers in software play a crucial role in bridging the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders. They often facilitate regular meetings, such as sprint planning and progress reviews, to ensure everyone is aligned on project goals and timelines. Clear communication and documentation are key, as they translate technical updates for non-technical stakeholders and relay business priorities to the development team. This collaborative approach helps manage expectations, mitigate risks early, and ensure successful delivery of software projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a technical project manager in software, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Technical Project Manager in Software, you need a strong understanding of software development processes, project management methodologies (such as Agile or Scrum), and a relevant technical background, often supported by a degree in computer science or engineering. Familiarity with project management tools like Jira, Trello, or Asana, as well as certifications such as PMP or Certified ScrumMaster, is typically expected. Leadership, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities help you manage cross-functional teams and stakeholder expectations. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards in complex software environments.

MyFunded Futures

Plano, TX โ€ข On-site

Job description

At My Funded Futures, we're transforming the world of proprietary trading by giving traders the capital, tools, and community they need to succeed.
We blend innovation, transparency, and performance to create opportunity - helping traders scale faster and smarter. If you're passionate about fintech, financial markets, and data-driven growth, you'll fit right in.
Explore our open roles below and see how you can help us shape the future of funded trading.
Own the Roadmap. Ship the Work.
MyFundedFutures isn't just another prop firm. We're building the trading platforms, tools, and infrastructure that funded traders rely on every single day, and that only works if the projects actually ship, on time and without chaos. We move fast, we ship bold, and we don't do boring. If you're someone who can take a messy set of priorities and turn it into a roadmap that actually gets executed, we want to talk to you.
This is a rare shot to build the project management function from the ground up at a company at the intersection of finance, trading technology, and internet-native growth. Just a team that wants execution to move as fast as the ideas do.
What You'll Do
  • Own delivery across engineering projects: scoping, sequencing, tracking, and shipping, end to end
  • Translate priorities from Product and Executive leadership into clear, sequenced project plans that Engineering can actually execute against
  • Run the day-to-day cadence: standups, sprint planning, retros, and whatever rituals actually keep the team moving instead of slowing it down
  • Identify and clear blockers before they become excuses, whether that's a dependency, a vendor, or a resourcing gap
  • Manage cross-functional coordination between Engineering, Product, and other teams so nothing falls through the cracks
  • Track project health and communicate status clearly to leadership, including the risks nobody wants to say out loud
  • Own technical documentation and process rigor without burying the team in overhead
  • Balance multiple concurrent projects across our trading platform, prop firm, and brokerage lines without losing the thread on any of them
What You Bring
  • A track record of managing technical/engineering projects in a fast-moving environment, ideally in fintech, trading, or SaaS
  • Enough technical fluency to have real conversations with Engineering about architecture, tradeoffs, and dependencies, not just deadlines
  • Strong instincts for prioritization: you know what actually needs to ship now versus what can wait
  • Comfort holding people accountable, including engineers and leadership, without becoming a bottleneck yourself
  • Genuine interest in trading, markets, or prop firm culture. You don't need to be a trader, but you should get why this space is exciting
  • Speed without sacrificing rigor. We operate in a fast-moving, high-volume environment
  • Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities across a small, fast-scaling company
  • A thrive-in-chaos mindset: you're energized by a small, fast-paced team where the best idea wins, not the loudest title
Bonus Points
  • Experience managing projects for a trading platform, prop firm, or brokerage
  • Familiarity with agile/scrum tooling (Jira, Linear, or similar) and running the process without letting it run you
  • Background as a former engineer or technically-adjacent role
  • A track record of turning a chaotic backlog into a shipped roadmap
Why Us
  • Ground-floor opportunity to build the project management function at one of the fastest-growing names in funded futures trading
  • A team that moves with startup speed and cares about doing things right
  • Real ownership: your execution will directly shape how fast and how well we ship across multiple businesses
  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • A culture built on edge, execution, and no fluff
