The Technical Project Manager will lead new and sustaining product development projects within our engineering development organization. This role is responsible for managing the technical and cross-functional execution of projects from concept through commercial launch, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and in alignment with product specifications and business objectives.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in technical project management, particularly in engineering-led product development environments. This individual will have the ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage complex project schedules and budgets, and drive execution across hardware, software/firmware, manufacturing, and test disciplines. The role also requires strong collaboration with engineering, operations, manufacturing, quality, and program teams, as well as the ability to leverage project data, reporting, and automation tools to improve visibility, planning, and execution.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead new and sustaining product development projects across cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Develop and manage detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, milestones, and resource allocation.
  • Drive projects through the full product development lifecycle, from concept and customer requirements through commercial launch.
  • Monitor project performance, timelines, deliverables, and utilization to support effective planning and execution.
  • Identify technical, operational, and schedule risks; develop mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Coordinate teams across design engineering, quality, system test, manufacturing, operations, and program management.
  • Partner with internal manufacturing teams and contract manufacturers to support design for manufacturability and design for test.
  • Establish and track key design and quality parameters, including Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements, to support reliable high-volume production.
  • Conduct technical feasibility, requirements, and cost-benefit analysis to support project decisions.
  • Communicate project status, priorities, risks, and outcomes clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Utilize Smartsheet for project tracking, schedules, resource planning, and reporting.
  • Leverage Power BI to analyze project, utilization, and performance data and provide actionable insights.
  • Use Power Automate or similar tools to streamline workflows, reporting, and cross-functional communication.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project execution, engineering workflows, and team effectiveness.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a technical discipline, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of project or program management experience in a technical or engineering-focused environment.
  • Experience managing new product development of electronic-based products.
  • Experience leading projects through the full product development lifecycle, including products involving electronics, mechanical, and firmware engineering.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams across engineering, quality, test, and manufacturing functions.
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, risk management, resource planning, and status reporting.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and project planning tools.
  • Experience with Smartsheet; familiarity with Power BI and Power Automate preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management certification such as PMP.
  • Experience in the utility industry, including water and gas metering or battery-powered communication products.
  • Experience with radio transceivers.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and industry standards such as ANSI, AWWA, UL, and Intrinsic Safety.
  • Exposure to or working knowledge of firmware and/or software systems.
  • Strong mechanical and industrial background with experience in infrastructure, utilities, manufacturing, or field equipment environments.

The estimated salary range for this position is $115,000 to $135,000. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience, and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
