Job description

As a Technical Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical sales and account management of AMETEK's comprehensive motion solutions portfolio, including variable-speed brushless (BLDC) motor driven blowers, fans and pumps, Lamb electric products and accessories, Gear Motors, and Stepper Motors. You will drive revenue growth and provide technical expertise across the expanded product range.

What you will do:

Sales & Account Management

  • Manage customer accounts directly within the assigned territory, focusing on OEM customers and key accounts across multiple product lines including BLDC motors, gear motors, and stepper motors.
  • Responsible for following through on all sales leads, managing those leads into specific customer growth opportunities and driving these opportunities into actual sales wins, resulting in revenue growth for the business unit.
  • Identify, communicate and drive growth funnel opportunities within the assigned markets and geographical territory.
  • Develop sales strategies in accordance with the business unit's goals and objectives in order to achieve market share growth and maximize sales revenue as well as profitability.

Technical Support & Product Expertise

  • Provide commercial and technical support to OEM customers across the full product portfolio including BLDC motors, gear motors, stepper motors, blowers, fans, pumps, and control systems.
  • Interface with the Engineering and Operations teams to assist in providing direction and management for the development of new or modified product solutions.
  • Make calls on customers to introduce, promote and sell products, maintaining contact primarily with manufacturing representatives, customer's engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and management personnel to convince them of the advantages of using our products.
  • Provide product engineering assistance to customers by coordinating with the customer's engineering and business unit engineering in an effort to design and develop products needed to satisfy customer requirements.

Business Development & Strategic Planning

  • Help identify and establish the company's marketing strategy based on customer needs, market needs and opportunities while achieving division revenue growth and profit goals for the product line.
  • Coordinate all disciplines necessary to support new products and applications from design to and including a fully documented and manufactured product.
  • Ability to understand and communicate market trends and specific customer needs.
  • Formulate sales forecasts for area of responsibility, submitting those to supervisor for use in the development of business unit sales forecasts and assure the achievement of these goals.

Customer Relations & Support

  • Assure that superior customer relations are maintained and nurtured through direct contact with customers and the field sales force.
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate a resolution to various business challenges across all departments (internal and external).
  • Provide full technical support to the Customer Service Department in relation to customer inquiries.
  • Participate in creating internal customer forecasts.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Must complete all required reporting, as required by the division/business unit.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports and reports of sales calls for Sales Manager in order to keep business unit sales management informed with regard to sales performance.
  • Provide departmental training and cross-training as required.

Trade Shows & Industry Engagement

  • Attend trade shows to obtain competitive information, promote product offerings and find new products for the Division to manufacture.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred); 3-5 years' technical selling experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years' experience in technical sales with differentiated sales to OEMs for electromechanical products into niche markets preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with airflow products and applications desired and/or a strong mechanical aptitude along with an understanding of electronics / electronic controls preferred.
  • Strong understanding of motion control technologies including BLDC motors, gear motors, stepper motors, and their applications across various industries.
  • Account management experience with differentiated sales to OEMs for electromechanical products into niche markets preferred.
  • High capacity for customer and program/account management.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and value selling skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and excellent working knowledge of engineering and sales principles.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Must demonstrate excellent internal and external communication skills and have strong service mindset.
  • Must be able to work well within a team or independently, as well as demonstrate initiative and a drive for results.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed to customers, trade shows and various AMETEK facilities (estimated 50%).
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Computer and software proficient (MS Office, Oracle a plus).
  • Energetic, driven and able to interface effectively and positively with various positions/levels within both customer accounts and with internal team members.
