Technical project managers develop and oversee a company’s technology projects. They may focus on one project at a time, or they may manage several projects at once. When you take on the role of a technical project manager, your job duties include establishing the scope and expectations of the project with your employer, creating timelines and deadlines, helping the development team prioritize tasks and troubleshoot technical issues, and check for quality control. You are also responsible for writing reports and keeping your supervisors updated on the status of the projects. Most technical managers start their careers in other roles in the IT department of a company before moving into a supervisory position.
