Job description

ASR is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician VI for an exciting opportunity supporting a Department of Defense robotics and autonomous systems program in Selfridge, MI. This senior-level technician will independently plan and execute complex engineering projects or studies, serve as a technical authority in specialized engineering areas, and provide leadership and guidance to lower-level technical staff.
Responsibilities:
  • Independently plan, organize, and accomplish complete engineering support projects or technical studies of broad scope and complexity involving robotic, autonomous, unmanned, and related technical systems.
  • Serve as a senior technical expert in specialized engineering areas, including system integration, testing, troubleshooting, sustainment, technical evaluation, or environmental and operational factors affecting electronic or complex systems.
  • Apply creativity, sound technical judgment, and advanced problem-solving skills to devise approaches, resolve design or operational issues, and make decisions in situations where standard methods, procedures, or techniques may not fully apply.
  • Select, adapt, and apply advanced engineering plans, techniques, designs, layouts, procedures, and technical approaches to meet project objectives and mission requirements.
  • Review, analyze, and integrate technical work performed by other team members to ensure technical adequacy, completeness, consistency, and alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Consult with supervisors or professional engineers on unusual, controversial, or policy-related technical matters while otherwise operating with a high degree of independence.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, test records, engineering notes, reports, status updates, corrective action documentation, and customer-facing program materials.
  • Train, mentor, supervise, and provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians and technical support personnel.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a highly related scientific field strongly preferred.
  • Advanced specialized technical certifications, senior-level military technical training, or equivalent specialized training highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 to 12+ years of progressive engineering, engineering support, technical integration, testing, troubleshooting, sustainment, or related technical experience.
  • Significant experience leading complex technical projects or serving as a technical authority in a specialized engineering niche, such as environmental effects on electronics, advanced materials, complex systems integration, robotics, autonomous systems, or unmanned systems.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in one or more engineering or technical domains relevant to mission systems, system integration, testing, technical analysis, sustainment, or operational support.
  • Proven ability to independently plan, conduct, and complete projects or studies of broad scope and high complexity while maintaining alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Advanced ability to select, adapt, and apply technical plans, methods, designs, procedures, and approaches when standard engineering methods may not be sufficient.
  • Demonstrated creativity, judgment, and technical decision-making skills in resolving complex design, operational, integration, or sustainment challenges.
  • Ability to train, mentor, supervise, and provide technical direction to lower-level technicians and technical support personnel.
  • Strong ability to coordinate with personnel in related technical activities and resolve complex cross-functional problems.
  • Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, seeking guidance from supervisors or professional engineers only for unusual, controversial, or policy-related matters.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Government stakeholders, engineering personnel, technical teams, military end users, subcontractors, and a diverse range of individuals.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, safety, and compliance.
  • Qualified applicants must be able to pass a background check.
  • Active Secret clearance required.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Government contracting experience preferred.
