Job description

Job Purpose

Working seamlessly with the sales team, the Technical Sales Specialist will support sales efforts in order to demonstrate value in Herc Rentals technical solutions capabilities. The Technical Sales Specialist a subject matter expert, technically savvy in ProSolutions equipment categories and customer solution designs. This role blends technical expertise, consultative sales skills, and project management to provide turnkey solutions for our customers. As the technical authority and strategic partner, you will work closely with clients to design, quote, and deliver complex solutions in HVAC R, power generation, load banking, and pumping system applications.

What you will do...
  • Proactively drive revenue within assigned portfolio of target accounts and mission-critical projects by leveraging technical expertise in industrial equipment applications, sizing, and performance analysis.
  • Support sales representatives with technical sales opportunities by developing data-driven target prospect lists, providing on-site technical consultation during job walks, evaluating system requirements, and ensuring proposed solutions meet client specifications.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with key customer accounts, applying advanced consultative sales methods (e.g., action selling) to uncover underlying technical challenges and tailor equipment configurations or system designs that deliver measurable ROI.
  • Demonstrate solution value and Herc credibility by conducting equipment demonstrations, technical audits, and application analyses to identify efficiencies, reduce downtime, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Translate customer technical requirements into detailed scopes of work, technical drawings or schematics to ensure seamless hand-off to service delivery teams, improving execution quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Assist in the development of sales proposals, providing technical input into RFP and project proposals and develop single line drawings and or other technical documents as needed
  • Create and deliver technical training and presentations (internal and client-facing) using PowerPoint, AutoCAD visualizations, and technical literature—positioning Herc as a thought leader in industrial solutions.
  • Proactively attend internal sales meetings to identify potential sales targets, utilize Salesforce to track performance of opportunities.
  • Conduct ongoing market and equipment analysis to identify gaps in current fleet capabilities, recommending new or upgraded equipment product lines aligned with evolving customer demands.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise to cross-functional teams by developing technical content for targeted sales campaigns, advising on equipment application engineering, safety protocol integration, and delivering input on operator training programs.
  • Manage change orders, scope adjustments, and post-install support.
Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Technical training in HVAC R, mechanical, power and load banking, pumps or electrical systems
Skills
  • Proven history in consultative/technical sales within the industrial equipment or related sector.
  • Experience reading schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings
  • Strong mechanical and electrical systems understanding (load calculations, airflow, voltage/amperage, equipment sizing).
  • Ability to solve complex & technical problems in tough operational environments. Work with the operational team to formulate a detailed execution plan as part of the sales solution
  • Effectiveness - Target ideal customers for Herc Rentals ProSolutions with specific technical applications that solve pain points for customers in a targeted sales segment approach
  • Efficiency - Streamline efforts into qualifying opportunities. Be the lead in the sales process & expert in formulating & presenting a solution to our customers.
  • Proactively work across the organization with the Herc+, ProSolutions & Classic sales team to uncover new opportunities & further develop ideal customer relationships

Pay Range:$130,000 - $140,000 base salary + bonus + vehicle
