Job description

Position Overview:

The Assistant Technical Designer will support the technical design team in translating creative concepts into production ready garments. Key duties include managing fit schedules and tracking samples to maintain strict adherence to development timelines. Responsibilities include assisting with technical sketches, updating tech packs, and evaluating samples.

At Duluth Trading Company, we value face-to-face interactions that foster our culture of learning, creativity, and teamwork. The role is based at our headquarters near Madison, WI. You will work in the office Monday through Thursday, with the option to work from home on Fridays if you prefer.

What You’ll Do: 

Operational Support, Coordination and Technical Development

  • Organize and attend fit sessions, documenting comments and managing model scheduling and communication.
  • Monitor sample statuses and update details in PLM to ensure production and development deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate wash and wear testing, competitive analysis sessions, and product reviews.
  • Support fit and production sample review, analysis and specification updates in PLM.
  •  Maintaining digital pattern files and physical samples libraries.
  • Assist  with updating tech packs including sketches, Bill of materials and specifications.
  • Assist with analyzing sample quality, measuring samples and evaluating fit.
  • Communicate with suppliers in support of sample tracking, fit comments and tech pack updates.

Quality Assurance & Analysis

  • Track lab testing compliance and wash and wear testing.
  • Compile customer reviews and returns to drive data-led decision-making.
  • Identify product failures, elevate issues to the team, and communicate findings to suppliers.

Complete tasks and adheres to development timelines as assigned.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Apparel Design and Development
    • Equivalent work experience will be considered
  • 1+ year of experience.
  • No management experience required.
  • Basic Fit analysis and patternmaking skills
  • Ability to sketch in Illustrator or similar package
  • Knowledge of product construction and components
  • Basic understanding of product engineering, manufacturing processes and QC systems
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to  prioritize workload and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability  to adapt to change and be self-directed
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Physical Environment & Travel Expectations:

  • Travel is required for Less than 10% of company-related meetings, programs, and/or events.

Position Compensation Outline 

Compensation Range: $25.00 to $30.00/hour.
