Overview

The Data Engineering Manager leads the delivery of data platform, integration, and reporting initiatives while overseeing the infrastructure that supports them. This role translates business priorities into actionable plans, coordinates technical teams, manages dependencies, and ensures the successful delivery of reliable, high-quality data solutions. The position operates within complex enterprise environments and plays a key role in aligning stakeholders, resolving delivery challenges, and driving operational excellence. The Data Engineering Manager balances strategic planning with hands-on leadership to support both technology and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, prioritization, and delivery of data engineering initiatives, ensuring alignment with business, operational, and clinical objectives.
  • Oversee data platform reliability, scalability, operational readiness, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Manage project roadmaps, timelines, risks, dependencies, status reporting, and cross-functional team coordination.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for data engineering issues and support resolution of complex technical and operational challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with governance, security, data standards, and change management requirements while promoting engineering best practices and quality outcomes.

Qualifications

Education

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in technical delivery, data engineering delivery, data warehousing, or related roles.
  • 3+ years of experience leading technical teams.
  • Experience coordinating hybrid delivery models, including onshore/offshore teams and vendor partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage roadmaps, backlogs, dependencies, risks, milestones, and executive-ready status reporting.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure Data platforms in support of hybrid environments.
  • Experience applying Agile, Scrum, Kanban, waterfall, or hybrid delivery frameworks in a technical environment.
  • Working knowledge of data pipelines, integration patterns, databases, cloud platforms, and large-scale data processing concepts.
  • Experience with Microsoft data and reporting tools, including SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS, PowerShell, and Tableau.
  • Understanding of data governance, security, compliance, and change management considerations in technology delivery.
  • Familiarity with modern data engineering tools such as Databricks, Delta Lake, or Snowflake preferred.
  • Exposure to master data management (MDM) or enterprise data governance frameworks preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex data warehousing, database, and infrastructure issues under operational pressure.
  • Experience supporting healthcare or other highly regulated environments preferred.
