Assistant Technical Director

Assistant Technical Director (Part-Time)
Miami Theater Center (MTC)

Position Type: Part-Time (20 hours per week)
Schedule: Flexible, including evenings and weekends

Miami Theater Center (MTC) is seeking a reliable, hands-on Assistant Technical Director to support the Technical Director in the operation of our professional performing arts venue. This position is ideal for someone with technical theater experience who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment serving artists, students, and the community.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Technical Director with the preparation and execution of performances, rehearsals, rentals, and special events.
  • Program, operate, and troubleshoot the ETC Ion lighting console.
  • Hang, focus, patch, and maintain theatrical lighting equipment.
  • Assist with basic sound, projections, and stage setup as needed.
  • Support scenic load-ins, strikes, and general stage operations.
  • Help maintain theater equipment, tools, and backstage spaces.
  • Ensure safe working practices backstage and during technical operations.
  • Provide technical support for educational programs, family performances, and community events.
  • Work collaboratively with visiting artists, rental clients, production staff, and volunteers.

 

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the ETC Ion lighting console is required.
  • General knowledge of theatrical lighting, stagecraft, and backstage operations.
  • Experience with live theater production preferred.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds and work on ladders when necessary.
  • Strong organizational skills, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends based on the production schedule.

 

Compensation

  • Part-time position, approximately 20 hours per week.
  • Hourly rate commensurate with experience.
