Job description

INSI is seeking an experienced Technical Lead to provide hands-on technical leadership across client environments, complex projects, and internal technology operations. This role combines high-level engineering work with team coaching, documentation and quality standards, automation initiatives, process management, and direct oversight of assigned technical staff. The Technical Lead serves as a senior escalation point, helps establish scalable technical practices, and ensures work is completed accurately, securely, and in alignment with company standards.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership — Build & Maintain

  • Lead the planning, design, implementation, and completion of complex client projects involving networks, servers, cloud platforms, security, communications, and business applications.
  • Serve as the senior technical escalation point for difficult or high-impact incidents, ensuring issues are diagnosed, communicated, and resolved effectively.
  • Maintain hands-on responsibility for advanced troubleshooting, system architecture, upgrades, migrations, and new technology deployments.
  • Manage and continuously improve internal systems and operational processes, including hosted infrastructure, capacity planning, availability, backup and recovery, maintenance, documentation, and overall operational readiness.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities, including practical uses of artificial intelligence, scripting, integrations, and workflow improvements.
  • Maintains and improvises technical recommendations to ensure client environments, risks, recommendations, lifecycle needs, and improvement opportunities are consistently evaluated, updated, and documented.
  • Partner with security resources to address vulnerabilities, incidents, compliance requirements, and remediation priorities.
  • Promote stable, secure, supportable, and scalable technical solutions that align with INSI standards and client business needs.

Coaching, Training & Standards

  • Coach and develop technical staff through regular guidance, knowledge sharing, job shadowing, technical reviews, and hands-on training.
  • Provide clear direction to engineers on troubleshooting approach, project execution, client communication, and escalation procedures.
  • Establish, maintain, and reinforce documentation standards for tickets, projects, configurations, procedures, diagrams, and client knowledge bases.
  • Review technical work for quality, completeness, security, and adherence to company standards before implementation or closure when appropriate.
  • Help identify skill gaps, provide training, make recommendations on certifications, tools, or process improvements that strengthen the technical team.
  • Encourage consistent use of best practices and support a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and professional growth.

Team & Work Management

  • Provide day-to-day oversight and work directions for assigned technical staff, including prioritization, coordination, follow-up, and escalation support.
  • Assist with workload planning across support tickets, projects, preventative maintenance, client commitments, and internal initiatives.
  • Monitor assigned work for projects regarding timeliness, scope, quality, documentation, and effective client communication.
  • Participate in performance feedback, development planning, and accountability discussions for assigned team members in coordination with company leadership.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and company leadership to identify resource constraints, technical risks, and delivery concerns.
  • Remain available for client support and technical work while appropriately delegating tasks to build team capability and improve overall capacity.

Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of experience in IT, managed services, network engineering, systems administration, or a related technical environment.
  • Strong knowledge of networking, TCP/IP, Windows Servers, Linux Systems, Firewalls, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft 365, virtualization, cloud platforms, backup and recovery, cybersecurity, and business continuity.
  • Experience with technologies such as Cisco, SonicWall, Ubiquiti, Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, VoIP/3CX, Synology, automation platforms, and MSP ticketing or monitoring tools is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical projects and serving as an escalation resource for other engineers.
  • Experience coaching, training, mentoring, or supervising technical staff.
  • Strong troubleshooting, critical-thinking, documentation, project-planning, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical work with leadership, delegation, quality review, and team development responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues, risks, and recommendations to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple client and internal demands while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
  • Relevant technical certifications and a college degree in IT or a related field are preferred.
