Overview

Technical Manager reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager or Plant/Site Manager and is responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day activities of staff responsible for setup, maintenance and repair of thermoforming equipment and peripheral manufacturing equipment to satisfy the production schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: supervise and provide guidance to ensure all tasks, projects and deadlines are met; interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, monitor, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems; monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures; establish goals and objectives with direct reports and monitor progress.
  • Operations: ensure safety procedures are strictly followed including lock out/tag out and fall protection; manage a staff of Setup Technicians and Setup Mechanics; coordinate 24/7 schedule across evening and weekend shifts; periodically work a swing shift to develop second shift staff; collaborate with Production Control Manager on staffing plans; assist in developing preventive and predictive maintenance schedules; organize maintenance records per Inline Plastics requirements; maintain equipment specifications, manuals and parts libraries; develop staff knowledge to meet productivity objectives across four shifts; assist with troubleshooting to minimize downtime; benchmark Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and identify improvement areas; collaborate with Process Engineers on improvement plans to reduce tooling, machine repair, cleaning issues, and scrap; support 6S, SMED and lean manufacturing; ensure compliance with product quality standards and safety requirements; maintain a clutter-free, safe working environment.
  • Safety: comply with EHS policy and regulatory rules; promptly report unsafe conditions or environmental concerns; attend scheduled EHS trainings; support achievement of EHS goals and recommend improvements; adhere to safe work practices including lifting techniques and PPE usage; ensure fall protection procedures and LO/TO compliance.
  • Product Safety and Quality: follow Product Safety and Quality standards; follow GMPs for food contact packaging as it pertains to employees; comply with IPC product defense standards and Safe Quality Food (SQF) requirements.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role; Bachelor’s degree in engineering, management, business, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and TMM.
  • Must be able to read, speak and understand English; ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals and financial reports; ability to present information to top management or boards.
  • Strong algebra, problem-solving, data interpretation, and analytical reasoning; high mechanical aptitude.
