What is a technical analyst?

A technical analyst provides technical support concerning the computer systems and databases of a business. Typical job duties include implementing system upgrades, backing up data, testing computer systems, and performing maintenance. Technical analyst positions can also refer to a role played in financial institutions that research technical investment opportunities.

What does a technical analyst do?

A Technical Analyst is responsible for evaluating and interpreting technical data to support business decisions, often within IT or finance sectors. They analyze systems, processes, and workflows to identify areas for improvement and recommend solutions. Technical Analysts may also assist in implementing new technologies, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring that systems operate efficiently. Their work often bridges the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders.

How does a technical analyst typically interact with other departments within an organization?

Technical Analysts regularly collaborate with teams such as IT, operations, and business units to gather requirements, analyze data, and implement solutions that align with organizational goals. They often serve as a bridge between technical staff and non-technical stakeholders, translating business needs into actionable technical specifications. This cross-functional interaction is essential for ensuring that technology initiatives support broader business objectives and are implemented effectively. Being proactive in communication and building strong relationships across departments helps Technical Analysts drive successful projects and resolve issues efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a technical analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Technical Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of IT systems, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Effective communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail are key soft skills that help bridge the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders. These abilities are crucial for accurately interpreting technical data, supporting decision-making processes, and ensuring technology solutions align with organizational goals.

Job description

Technical Lead, Data Analytics
Department: Arkalytics - Support
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Remote
Compensation: $100,000 - $140,000 / year
Description
Technical Lead | SQL | Snowflake | Tableau | AWS
At Arkatechture, we believe data should empower better decisions. Since 2012, we've partnered with financial institutions across the country to solve complex data challenges through modern analytics, cloud technologies, and AI-powered solutions.
Our mission is built on three simple pillars:
  • Do something meaningful
  • With a great team
  • Earning what you deserve

We're looking for an experienced technical leader who is passionate about solving complex data problems, mentoring others, and helping customers unlock the full potential of their data. If you enjoy writing SQL one minute, architecting a cloud data solution the next, and coaching teammates along the way, we'd love to meet you.
As the Technical Lead, Data Analytics, you'll serve as the senior technical expert for a portfolio of enterprise customers while helping shape the future of our Support Services team.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a people manager who occasionally reviews code. You'll spend much of your time solving challenging SQL and cloud data platform problems, partnering directly with customers, mentoring analysts, and driving technical excellence across the organization.
While this role is expected to grow into formal people leadership, your technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and customer partnership skills are what will make you successful from day one.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the senior technical resource for our Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Support team.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of complex customer issues involving data, analytics, and cloud platforms.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement scalable, long-term solutions-not just quick fixes.
  • Review SQL and BI object changes while promoting development best practices.
  • Mentor and coach analysts, helping elevate the technical capabilities of the entire team.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and continuous improvement across support processes.
  • Lead root cause analysis meetings as necessary to dig into any thematic issues that crop up and how we can mitigate them
  • Help customers maximize the value of Arkatechture's analytics platform through technical guidance and best practices.
  • Partner closely with Customer Success to improve customer satisfaction, retention, and platform adoption.
  • Support customer meetings by offering technical expertise, hold office hours, expand upon Knowledge Base articles and Learning Management System training for customers.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and optimize complex SQL solutions.
  • Troubleshoot ELT processes, data pipelines, and BI reporting environments.
  • Monitor and resolve issues with Tableau and Power BI dashboards and scheduled refreshes.
  • Collaborate across Engineering, Customer Success, and Product teams to deliver scalable customer solutions.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving difficult technical problems and helping others do the same.
  • 6+ years of experience working with SQL in production environments
  • Deep expertise with relational databases and cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, SQL Server, Oracle, Redshift, Synapse, BigQuery, or similar)
  • Strong experience designing, troubleshooting, and optimizing data warehouses and analytics solutions
  • Experience with Tableau and Power BI
  • A strong understanding of data modeling, ELTprocesses, and modern analytics architecture
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to build trusted customer relationships
  • Experience mentoring teammates or serving as a technical leader
  • Experience with Agile development practices and tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket

Experience with any of the following is a plus:
  • Professional Python experience
  • Experience supporting cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS
  • Financial services, banking, or credit union technology
  • Customer-facing consulting or technical support leadership
  • Modern data engineering and cloud architecture
  • Data governance or data quality initiatives
  • AI or machine learning technologies

Why You'll Love Working Here
At Arkatechture, you'll work alongside curious, collaborative people who genuinely enjoy solving hard problems together.
We offer:
  • Flexible remote work with optional access to our Portland, Maine office
  • Four-day work week after three years of service
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits
  • Medical, disability, life insurance, and optional dental and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Generous paid time off and paid holidays
  • Professional development and certification reimbursement
  • Opportunities to influence our technical direction while continuing to grow your own expertise

We're proud of the culture we've built. We hire people who are humble, curious, collaborative, and driven by continuous improvement.
Our values guide everything we do:
  • Put the team first.
  • Practice humility.
  • Take pride in your work.
  • Stay curious.
  • Care for your community and the environment.
  • Take the work seriously, but not yourself.

If you're excited about building innovative data solutions, solving complex technical challenges, and helping shape a growing technical team, we'd love to hear from you.
To help us get to know you, please include your resume and answer the following question in the cover letter section of the application:
Describe the most technically challenging SQL or cloud database problem you've solved. What was the issue, how did you approach it, and what was the outcome? (250 words or less.)
Don't meet every qualification listed above? We still encourage you to apply. Research consistently shows that talented candidates, particularly women and underrepresented groups, often hesitate to apply unless they meet every requirement. If this role excites you, we'd love to hear from you.
