The Role

The Director, Derivatives PostTrade Technology is responsible for the strategic direction, leadership, and oversight of global Derivatives PostTrade Technology with primary accountability for Confirmations, Settlements, and post trade lifecycle processing across OTC and listed derivatives.

This role drives modernization of the derivatives posttrade technology landscape, partnering closely with Global Wholesale Operations, Risk, Finance, Legal, and regional Technology teams. The incumbent will define and execute a technology strategy that reduces operational and settlement risk, improves straightthrough processing, enhances regulatory compliance, and delivers measurable business value.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
 
  • Own the end to end technology stack supporting derivatives confirmations and settlements , including trade confirmation, matching, affirmation, settlement instruction generation, and exception management.
  • Provide strategic leadership for posttrade processing across OTC and exchangetraded derivatives, including rates, FX, credit, and equity derivatives.
  • Drive modernization initiatives focused on automation, straightthrough processing (STP), resiliency, and reduction of manual controls and operational risk.
  • Ensure 24x7 production stability for critical derivatives posttrade platforms with global followthesun support.
  • Lead delivery of medium to large technology programs with annual IT spend typically ranging from $2MM to $15MM.
  • Manage complex regulatory and industrydriven initiatives (e.g., T+1/T+0 settlement impacts, margin and settlement alignment, recordkeeping and audit requirements).
  • Partner with Operations and business stakeholders to translate derivatives posttrade requirements into actionable technology roadmaps and executable delivery plans.
  • Own and manage vendor relationships across the derivatives posttrade ecosystem (e.g., confirmation, matching, settlement, and messaging platforms).
  • Apply modern engineering and delivery practices including Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, cloudadjacent architectures, and automation frameworks.
  • Ensure adherence to enterprise architecture standards, information security policies, and data governance requirements.
  • Act as the primary technology interface between derivatives Operations, Product Control, Risk, and other Capital Markets Technology teams.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen incident management, rootcause analysis, and knowledge transfer for production issues.
  • Communicate technology strategy, risk posture, and delivery status effectively to senior technology and business leadership.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Strong technical background in posttrade, settlements, or confirmations technology.
  • Deep understanding of derivatives lifecycle processing, particularly confirmations, settlements, and exception management.
  • Proven experience delivering largescale, complex technology programs in a regulated environment.
  • Strong vendor management and commercial negotiation experience.
  • Excellent business acumen and ability to align technology delivery to strategic and financial objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead transformation, continuous improvement, and operational resilience initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage executive leadership and senior business stakeholders.
