Job Summary
Barings' Global Investment Process Technology team is seeking an experienced professional tolead for the Asset Based Financing (ABF) Technology area. ABF is a rapidly growing sector in the marketplace, and we are looking for a talented individual to spearhead this dynamic space for us.This role involves collaborating with business units such as Investment Teams (Portfolio Managers, Analysts, and Quants), Operations, and Fund Services to support daily operations and build a technology strategy that aligns with business plans.

The role involves managing the book of work, encompassing both Business-As-Usual (BAU) items and strategic buildouts across various ABF verticals. The individual will ensure a proper prioritization process and effective stakeholder engagement and management to drive scale and operational efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Technology Strategy: Develop and execute a technology strategy that aligns with the firm's business plans and supports growth and operational efficiency.
  • Partnership and Collaboration: Build deep relationships with business units to understand their needs and leverage technology effectively. Collaborate with other technology functions to ensure cohesive and integrated solutions.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and build a high-quality, business-savvy technology team adept at full-stack development. Foster a culture of high work ethics, interpersonal skills, collaboration, and excellence in software development. Review code and institute best software development practices, including leveraging/building DevOps, GIT, and best practices for documentation and peer/design reviews.
  • Agile Practices: Implement and promote agile development practices to ensure timely and efficient delivery of technology solutions.
  • Modern Tech Stack: Stay progressive and on the cutting edge of technology, with familiarity in cloud-native computing and modern tech stacks.
  • Aladdin Platform Alignment: Ensure alignment with the firmwide strategy to leverage the Aladdin platform effectively. Maintain strong communication and partnership with the Aladdin Product Team to utilize the latest features.
  • Production Operations: Ensure the technical operations of systems and platforms are robust. Drive proper change management, audit processes, and no-blame postmortems with root cause analysis for incidents.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 8+ years of related institutional buy-side technology experience with a proven track record of success that includes understanding of public and private markets and asset servicing.
  • Asset Management Expertise: High familiarity with the Asset Management business is required, with Asset Based Financing being a plus.
  • Hands-On Development: Motivated to be hands-on with a track record of large-scale system development. Proficiency in coding with Python or C# is mandatory.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with design patterns, object-oriented programming practices, and databases (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, build, and mentor high-performing technology teams.
  • Agile Practices: Strong understanding and implementation of agile development practices.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Business Acumen: Deep understanding of the firm's overall business and investment capabilities. Ability to articulate and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
