What is tech sales?

Tech sales refers to the process of selling technology products or services, such as software, hardware, or IT solutions, to businesses or consumers. Professionals in tech sales identify customer needs, demonstrate product benefits, and help clients make informed purchasing decisions. The role often requires strong communication skills, a deep understanding of technology, and the ability to build relationships with clients. Tech sales can be highly rewarding with opportunities for career growth and attractive commission structures.

How does a tech sales professional typically collaborate with product and engineering teams to address client needs?

Tech Sales professionals often work closely with product and engineering teams to ensure they fully understand the technical features and capabilities of the solutions they sell. When clients present specific requirements or challenges, sales professionals relay this feedback to product and engineering, facilitating tailored demonstrations or customizations. This collaboration helps ensure that client expectations are met and that the solutions offered align with real-world business needs. Regular cross-functional meetings and open communication are essential parts of this collaborative process.

To thrive in Tech Sales, you need a solid understanding of technology products, strong sales acumen, and often a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, sales automation tools, and sometimes certifications in specific technologies or sales methodologies are typically required. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills help you stand out in engaging clients and closing deals. These skills and tools are crucial for effectively identifying customer needs, managing complex sales cycles, and driving revenue growth in a competitive tech market.

Job description

Sales Development Representative (SDR) | Remote (US) | Full-time | $45,000 base, $65,000 on-target earnings

Why TechWise Group

This is a chance to start a B2B technology sales career with real footing under you. You'd be joining a growing, profitable Microsoft partner right after a merger that expanded what we can sell to clients who already trust us, which means the opportunities you'll be calling into are real, not a cold list and a prayer. Leadership is personally invested in this program, the compensation rewards every meeting you book rather than just the deals others close, and the path from SDR to account management is defined and actually used. You get trained, equipped with the best tools in the industry, and judged on your results.

About TechWise Group

TechWise Group is a Microsoft Solutions Partner that manages IT, cybersecurity, cloud, and ERP for more than 300 mid-market companies across the country. Most of our clients used to juggle four or five technology vendors who pointed fingers at each other when something broke. We replaced that with one accountable team, and it's why our client base keeps growing. We hold Microsoft Solutions Partner designations in Security, Modern Work, and Infrastructure, we're SOC 2 Type II audited, and we operate from hubs in Chicago, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles with a distributed team.

We recently merged with Lumen21, which means our existing clients now have access to a much broader set of services than they know about. That's where this role comes in.

The role

You'll be the first conversation between TechWise Group and companies that should be working with us more. Most of your outreach goes to businesses that already buy from us in one area, like Microsoft licensing, but don't know we also handle their security, cloud, or IT support. The rest goes to new prospects from targeted lists we build for you. Your job is to open the conversation, understand what they need, and book a qualified meeting for one of our senior reps to run.

Day to day, that means:

  • Consistent outbound activity by phone, email, and LinkedIn, with phone as the core of the job
  • Qualifying prospects against clear criteria before booking a meeting
  • Handing off cleanly to the rep, or sitting in on the discovery meeting to learn
  • Keeping every account current in Microsoft Dynamics with a status and a next step

You don't need a technology background. We provide training on our services, call plans, and discovery questions, and the tools you'll work with are genuinely good: Nooks, an AI-assisted dialer that surfaces relevant information while you're on the call, and ZoomInfo for accurate contact data. You won't be building your own lists or guessing who to call.

This is a role for someone early in their sales career, or someone who has done high-volume customer-facing work in another industry and wants a professional B2B sales seat. It is outbound work, and you will hear "no" regularly. The people who succeed in it are comfortable on the phone, don't take rejection personally, and like having a number to beat.

What's in it for you

  • $45,000 base salary with $65,000 on-target earnings. On top of base, you earn $100 to $200 for every qualified meeting that takes place, and an additional $350 when a deal you sourced closes. The bonuses are uncapped.
  • Fully remote, anywhere in the US.
  • A defined path forward. SDRs who perform over 18 to 24 months can move toward an account management role. If you'd rather stay an SDR and keep earning meeting bonuses, that's a respected path here too.
  • Real investment in your success. Warm accounts to call into, quality data, modern tools, and direct attention from leadership, because this program matters to the company.

If you're ready to build a sales career with a company that gives you every tool to succeed, apply now. We review every application and move quickly with the candidates we want to meet.
