What is a Tech Policy job?
A Tech Policy job involves analyzing, shaping, and advocating for policies that govern technology and its impact on society. Professionals in this field work at the intersection of law, policy, and technology, addressing issues like data privacy, cybersecurity, AI governance, and internet regulation. They may work for governments, think tanks, advocacy groups, or tech companies to influence legislation and regulatory frameworks. Strong analytical, communication, and legal skills are often essential for success in this role.
What are the typical daily responsibilities of someone working in Tech Policy?
Professionals in Tech Policy often spend their days researching emerging technologies, analyzing proposed legislation or regulations, and drafting policy recommendations or position papers. They may collaborate with government affairs teams, industry groups, and technical experts to ensure policy positions are both informed and practical. Attending hearings, stakeholder meetings, and public forums is also common, allowing them to represent their organization’s interests and stay up to date on the latest policy developments. The role involves a balance of independent research, collaborative projects, and external engagement to drive impactful advocacy and policy outcomes.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Tech Policy position, and why are they important?
To thrive in Tech Policy, you need a solid understanding of technology trends, regulatory environments, and public policy, often supported by a degree in law, public policy, or a related field. Familiarity with legal research databases, policy analysis tools, and industry-specific compliance systems is typically required. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and analytical thinking are essential soft skills for success. These abilities enable professionals to effectively advocate for or shape technology policies in alignment with organizational or societal goals.

Job description
Note: Fidelity is not providing immigration sponsorship for this position
The Role
Are you energized by how emerging technologies are reshaping financial services-and curious about what comes next before clear rules or frameworks emerge? Do you enjoy exploring complex questions where technology, innovation, and responsibility intersect? This role sits at the crossroads of innovation, technology, and public policy, helping Fidelity navigate change while staying grounded in trust and longterm stewardship.
As Policy Director, Digital Assets & Emerging Technology, you will help shape how Fidelity engages with blockchainbased innovation and crossenterprise technology change. Working closely across the firm, you will support thoughtful decisionmaking as new technologies influence markets, business models, and investor expectations.
Your role:
Shaping strategic thinking on blockchain, digital assets, and emerging technologies across financial services
Partnering with business, legal, compliance, risk, and technology teams to evaluate new ideas and initiatives
Translating evolving technology concepts into clear policy, risk, and regulatory considerations
Asking forwardlooking questions about how technology changes incentives, responsibilities, and oversight
Monitoring trends across market innovation, including the rise of agentic financial services and intersections with cybersecurity, privacy, and artificial intelligence
Supporting external engagement with regulators, policymakers, and industry groups in a constructive and informed way
Preparing senior leaders for decisions amid uncertainty and change
The Expertise and Skills You Bring:
This role is designed for someone who understands crypto and emerging technologies and enjoys working through questions where the answers are still forming. You bring familiarity with blockchain, digital asset ecosystems, or adjacent technologies, along with the ability to think in systems rather than silos.
You are comfortable operating in ambiguity, asking insightful questions, and collaborating across disciplines to surface risks, tradeoffs, and opportunities. This role values judgment, curiosity, and the ability to connect ideas across technology, business models, and risk considerations.
Experience engaging with policy, regulatory, or risk topics is helpful, but deep specialization is not required. What matters most is how you think, how you communicate, and how you partner with others.
We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate:
Understanding of blockchain systems and emerging technology use cases
Experience applying emerging technology within financial services, fintech, or market infrastructure
Ability to translate complex ideas across technical and nontechnical audiences
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Intellectual curiosity and sound judgment when navigating new or unfamiliar issues
The Team
This role sits within Fidelity's Policy & Regulatory Strategy organization, which works across the enterprise to support thoughtful engagement with regulators, policymakers, and industry partners. Our work connects innovation with responsibility, helping Fidelity adapt as markets and technologies evolve.
This role collaborates closely with investment, brokerage, digital assets, legal, compliance, risk, and technology teams, as well as with external stakeholders across government, industry, and the broader financial ecosystem.
Fidelity's Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate's relevant experience, and other factors.
Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
We offer a wide range of benefits to meet your evolving needs and help you live your best life at work and at home. These benefits include comprehensive health care coverage and emotional well-being support, market-leading retirement, generous paid time off and parental leave, charitable giving employee match program, and educational assistance including student loan repayment, tuition reimbursement, and learning resources to develop your career. Note, the application window closes when the position is filled or unposted.
Please be advised that Fidelity's business is governed by the provisions of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Investment Company Act of 1940, ERISA, numerous state laws governing securities, investment and retirement-related financial activities and the rules and regulations of numerous self-regulatory organizations, including FINRA, among others. Those laws and regulations may restrict Fidelity from hiring and/or associating with individuals with certain Criminal Histories.
